DescriptionSculpture by the Sea - geograph.org.uk - 526042.jpg
English: Sculpture by the Sea This sculpture commemorates the journey of the Southern Cross, a famous aircraft that was piloted by Australian Charles Kingford-Smith and co-pilot Charles Ulm as they circumnavigated the earth between 1928 and 1930. The aircraft left Portmarnock on its continuing journey to Brisbane, on 4th June 1930.
The sculpture itself comprises a 1.9m diameter limestone globe with a bronze North Point aimed at the Pole Star. It was designed by Remco Dfouw and Rachael Joynt.
