Description Parsonage Colliery, Leigh. Photographer's comments - The square building on the left with wisps of steam housed a unique steam winding engine by W & J Galloway - No. W1. It was soon to be electrified and the whole pit has since gone. Nearby Bickershaw Colliery lasted longer but has also now gone. My slightly younger colleague (19) asked a bemused local "where is the coal place?".
