DescriptionDave Gallaher stirring the Lions tail.gif
English: Caption: "Beating him at his own game. New Zealand footballer: Aha, I'll have to give the tail of the British Lion another twist to stir him up. And they said England was the home of Rugby Football."
Caption depicts Dave Gallaher, the captain of the New Zealand rugby union team that was touring Britain and Ireland at the time, twisting the tail of a lion -- which itself represents British rugby. Gallaher's team eventually won 31 or their 32 matches in the British Isles. This cartoon depicts the "score" after their first three matches (see en:The Original All Blacks), where they defeated Devon, Cornwall and Bristol.
