Steven Haase is an American insurance broker known for writing the first cyber insurance policy.[1]

Haase is the founder and former CEO of INSUREtrust,[2][3] and has since served as president of STP Insurance Services, LLC.[4] He is also a frequent speaker, writer, and guest in industry-related forums.[5]

Early Life

Haase was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.[6] He attended Georgia State University, where he studied risk management and insurance. [7]

Early on, Haase worked with FM Global, where he managed international HPR insurance programs for several Fortune 1000 companies, including Coca Cola, Genuine Parts, Amway, and several car companies.[8][9]

Career

Haase developed the first cyber insurance policy, after several years of discussing the new risks faced by companies in the internet age.[10][11][12][13] His presentation of the launch of the first cyber insurance product, including first and third party coverages, at an April 1997 International Risk Insurance Management Society convention is considered a key turning point in the field's history,[14] as it resulted in the creation of the first policy designed to focus on the risks of internet commerce, the Internet Security Liability (ISL) policy, developed by Haase and underwritten by AIG. The early meeting between Haase and 20 industry colleagues in Hawaii is known today as the “Breach on the Beach.” [15][16][17][18]

Haase launched INSUREtrust and sold it in December 2020 when it INSUREtrust was acquired by Constellation Affiliated Partners, with Haase joining MIC Global and Christiaan Durdaller taking over as President and CEO of INSUREtrust.[19] From 2021 to 2024, Haase was the President of STP Insurance Services, LLC, which is the U.S. sales subsidiary of MIC Global. Personal Life

Haase competed on the debate team during his college days and has advocated for developing strong public speaking skills.[22]
