Alex McNaught (born 21 June 2002) is a New Zealand professional basketball player for the Nelson Giants of the National Basketball League (New Zealand).[1] He is also contracted with the New Zealand Breakers of the National Basketball League (Australia).
Early Life and Education
McNaught attended Saint Kentigern College, a well-regarded school in New Zealand known for its strong academic and athletic programs. His time at Saint Kentigern helped him develop as a player, setting the foundation for his professional career.[2]
Professional career
His basketball journey began with the Nelson Giants in the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZ NBL), where he played from 2020 to present. During his tenure with the Giants, McNaught's performance improved each season, culminating in the 2023-2024 season where he averaged 9.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game.
In August 2022, McNaught's potential was recognized by the New Zealand Breakers, leading to his signing as a development player. His dedication and performance earned him a three-year contract extension in March 2023.[3]
National team career
Alex McNaught made his international debut for the New Zealand Tall Blacks during the 2022-2023 season, marking an important milestone in his basketball career.
