Wikipedia:Your favourite thing does not need a Wikipedia article

We all have our favourite games, singers, shows, etc. Some of the follow the notability guidelines that warrants it an article, but others do not. However, not everything that you like deserves a Wikipedia article.

If you really want to create a Wikipedia article based on something you like, try creating a draft first. We have the article wizard that will allow you to create your very own draft in a flash. You also would need to find reliable sources that would warrant the thing you like a pass of WP:GNG.

One notable example is Battle for Dream Island (I advocate for its inclusion, I started #BFDIonWikipedia, mentioned BFDI eight times on my user page and still have NO clue on how to contact reliable sources to cover BFDI), which is a very popular animation series that sparked the trend of object shows on YouTube (I watched clips of BFDI, as well as a snippet of BenjiXScarlett's "Battle for Dream Island Song" (2024)), which sparked a lot of draft articles (and user page "articles"[a]). This essay would show why it may not need a Wikipedia article, and why it may harm the thing instead.

Other stuff exists

Other stuff exists. That does not mean that this things, or those other stuff, need an article. For example, there are three Roblox games, Doors, Rooms and Grace.[b] These games are roguelite horror games where players run through doors and escape scary monsters. Doors, has more sources (and even its own section on the List of Roblox games. So, just because Doors has its own section does NOT mean other games like Doors, such as Rooms and Grace, the former literally being one of the inspirations of Doors, need a section on the list, let alone an article.[c]. Similarly, just because something similar has an article does NOT mean it warrants an article. This applies to Roblox games, Total Drama fan-series (Disventure Camp, Exotic Escapade, Camp Castaways,[d] etc.), Taylor Swift songs, etc.

"But I like it!"

Yes, I know you like that thing but there are some stuff that I like that are not on Wikipedia, from songs like "I Almost Do" (2012), "Gold Rush" (2021), "Fashion!" (2013), "15 Minutes" (2025), to characters like Eleanor Shellstrop (from The Good Place),[e] and even Roblox games (Idiotic Investing, Flood Escape 1 (for reasons other than nostalgia), Roblox High School 2, Total Roblox Drama,[f] Epic Minigames, etc.)

But not all hope is lost. It should be possible for you to request articles in some magazines (if I'm not, Variety is one of them), but again, I have no clue on that so...

Wikipedia articles are not always good

Maybe the reason why you want your favourite thing to get a Wikipedia article, usually something completely new, is to give it a little bit of publicity. And you're right! Wikipedia is one of the most visited websites on the internet, so a handful might click onto articles about your favourite food, your favourite show, your favourite singer and maybe like it (I personally grew a bit towards Kanye while reviewing The Yeezus Tour, but that went to waste because of his Twitter[g] rant). However, is reliable sources criticizing or even exposing their bad behaviour exist, any editor can flock to that article, add the information (with the source, of course) and you can't do anything about it (except crine). And more people would know that that person did something bad (and no it DOES NOT feel good this time) because of the added publicity, so you're harming your favourite person/show/game.

You can try deleting those criticisms or dirt but it'll get reverted and you'd most likely get warned for this behaviour

In conclusion

Your favourite thing can only get a Wikipedia article if it passes WP:GNG (or its respective notability guidelines. And even if it does, if that thing is a person that got exposed for something bad (that is happening in Oz)[h], you can't stop people from adding shit about them.
