Overview
This election is to appoint the project coordinator team for one year, from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023. Coordinators are generally responsible for maintaining all of the procedural and administrative aspects of the project. All of the coordinators, and especially the lead coordinator (or lead coordinators), serve as the designated points-of-contact for procedural issues and focus on specific areas requiring special attention. They are not, however, endowed with any special executive powers.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the project coordinators is the maintenance and housekeeping work involved in keeping the project and its internal processes running smoothly; this includes a variety of tasks, such as keeping the announcement and open task lists updated, overseeing the assessment and review processes, managing the proposal and creation of task forces, and so forth. There is fairly little involved that couldn't theoretically be done by any other editor, of course—in only a few places have the coordinators been explicitly written into a process—but, since experience suggests that people tend to assume that someone else is doing whatever needs to be done, it has proven beneficial to formally delegate responsibility for this administrative work to a specified group.
The coordinators also have several additional roles. They serve as the project's designated points of contact, and are explicitly listed as people to whom questions can be directed in a variety of places around the project. In addition, they have (highly informal) roles in leading the drafting of project guidelines, overseeing the implementation of project decisions on issues like category schemes and template use, and helping to resolve disputes and keep discussions from becoming heated and unproductive.
Practical information on coordinating may be found here and here.
The current coordinators are:

- Voting period: 00:01 UTC, 15 September to 23:59 UTC, 28 September 2022.
- Any member of the project may nominate themselves for a position by adding their statement in the "Candidates" section below by the start of the election. The following boilerplate can be used:
=== Name === {{user|Name}} : Statement goes here... ==== Comments and questions for Name ==== *''What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?'' ** *''What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?'' ** ==== Votes in support of Name ==== #
- The election will be conducted using simple approval voting. Any member of the project may support as many of the candidates as they wish. The candidate with the highest number of endorsements will become the lead coordinator (provided he or she is willing to assume the post); this position may be shared in the event that multiple candidates receive the highest number of endorsements. The remaining candidates with twenty or more endorsements will be appointed as coordinators to a maximum of eleven appointments (including the lead coordinator). The number of coordinators may be increased or reduced if there is a tie or near-tie for the last position.

CPA-5
- Hi everyone, I joined Wikipedia in 2016 and MILHIST in 2018. I've been elected in 2019 as coordinator and after a small break in 2020 I've been elected again in 2021. During my terms I've been pretty active in editing The Bugle and reviewing ARCs, closing noms and trying to pass ARCs by inviting reviewers whom I think could be interested in the nom's article. Because Milhistbot has recently started with listing potential B-class articles, I've been busy manualy reviewing and correcting/confirming the bot's nom if it does or doesn't meet the criteria. I've been intrested in military history for over a decade by this point and I'm always ready to learn more. I found MILHIST and I work on it with passasion. I call myself a reviewer or how some call me a WikiEagle to find most issues or quaries in noms. Whether or not what era or country or even topic.
Comments and questions for CPA-5
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- Because I review mostly in MILHIST I almost once made 100 reviews in a trimester which is amazing. I also made my first GA-class article Bakassi conflict which took a lot of efford and I'm proud to make it a personal huge achievement.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- Because I had two terms in the past I know my role in the team and I have time to help wherever it's needed. I also am an experienced reviewer and have access to academic sources.

FacetsOfNonStickPans
FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk · contribs)
- I have been a regular editor since 2018. Since then I've edited a number of articles within the scope of the Indian military history task force. This is the first time I have shown interest in running for being a coordinator. I hope to practically take part in the various roles of a coordinator, both routine and repetitive tasks, and some of the more challenging ones. Comments and questions for FacetsOfNonStickPans
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I spent quite a bit of time with 2020–2022 China–India skirmishes and helped in expanding it as well as the ecosystem related to this parent article and the parent topic. This resulted in the creation of 25+ new connected articles, improvement of connected existing articles, a timeline, and related supporting maps. Within the scope of Indian milhist I've edited existing articles such as Indian Military Academy, now a GA, and a number of lesser viewed articles such as Delhi War Cemetery and Amar Jawan Jyoti. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 11:58, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- Map related editing and the basics of integrating maps with Wikipedia articles; this includes using OpenStreetMap, linking Wikidata and integrating the Maplink template, and other basics of mapwork with regard to Wikipedia such as overlaying labels etc.
- Time (for routine tasks, assessments, WikiProject tagging, and other coordinator roles)
I am currently editing under certain unblock conditions which restricts my participation in topics which overlap with Indian politics broadly construed. Where necessary I will avoid or excuse myself from the task or duty at hand. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 11:58, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

- This looks unlikely to succeed, but thank you nonetheless for your offer of help. Maybe add WT:MILHIST and WT:MHC to your watchlist to get a feel for what the coordinators do and get stuck in to some of the inner workings of the project. And of course there's article work; you may be under restrictions regarding Indian politics but there are plenty of articles about Indian military history that would benefit from your attention. I'd encourage you to put your name forward again next year if you've done all that and you're still interested. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:47, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
Gog the Mild
Gog the Mild (talk · contribs)
- I have been active on Wikipedia for less than five years, during which MilHist has become my Wiki-home and I have much appreciated the wonderful and creative space made available for me. Working as a coordinator over the past three years has seemed a useful way of partially paying back for the use of the "playground" and perhaps helping to maintain it as the collegiate place that it is. Note that I take a Shermanesque attitude to the possibility of being elected lead coordinator.
Comments and questions for Gog the Mild
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- Shining a little light into some of the lesser known corners of military history. I am especially pleased with the battles of Crécy and Poitiers and the recently promoted Second Punic War.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- Some enthusiasm and some time. As a natural Wikignome I actually enjoy some of the more repetitive or routine activities, so I am able to free some of the more experienced coordinators' time up for some of the more high-skill activities. I also review MilHist nominations for promotion to Featured Article or A Class status.

Hawkeye7
Comments and questions for Hawkeye7
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I joined the project in 2007. I was attracted to the project because I have a PhD in military history. Since then, I have brought 97 articles to Featured Article status. For some years I worked on was improving the articles about the Manhattan Project. Over one hundred articles were improved to Good article status or better, and the history of the Manhattan Project was turned into a Featured Topic. Since then I have worked on articles related to logistics, nuclear weapons and spaceflight. I am currently developing on a series of articles on logistics in the World War II campaign in North West Europe in 1944-1945. That campaign in general still needs a lot of work.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I have access to academic libraries and online journal resources, and have experience with military history research related to World War I and II. I also write and maintain Bots, in the Perl and C# languages. The role of the coordinator used to be far more complex than it is today. I wrote the MilHistBot, initially to handle the work involved in promoting articles to A-class. This made the task of promoting A-class articles much easier. Since then I have enhanced the MilHistBot to handle the membership list, and to clean up our project backlogs. Coordinators no longer have to deal with unassessed military history articles or military history articles with missing B-Class checklists, and we are now approaching our project goals with regard to the overall quality of articles.

Hog Farm
- I first started editing in late 2019, although I wasn't immediately involved in MILHIST. I was first elected as a coordinator in 2020 and was re-elected in 2021. Most of my editing is related to the American Civil War, especially the Vicksburg campaign and the lesser activities in Missouri and Arkansas. One of my other projects has been to try to get more interaction between MILHIST and the WP:URFA/2020 project, in hopes of get organized cleanup on older MILHIST featured articles. I've also been involved in maintaining some internal process, such as work on updating our content assessment examples last year. Hog Farm Talk 02:27, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
Comments and questions for Hog Farm
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- Either Battle of Raymond, which is probably the most important subject I've taken to FAC, or Thomas C. Hindman, which I rewrote to stave off a featured article review and probably delisting. Hog Farm Talk 02:27, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- Having two years of experience, I'm fairly familiar with most of the internal processes, and as an administrator, I can also perform some special cleanup tasks such as deletions and sending out project mass messages. Hog Farm Talk 02:27, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

I've had periods of inactivity, largely related to work and school, but plan to be very active in the coming year due to a lighter course load and less work. - My three FA articles, all within the purview of MILHIST, and my many more A-class and GA articles, largely focused upon Roman and Byzantine history. Additionally, a special point of pride for me is my work on Basiliscus, a very early FA article, first featured in 2006, which I entirely re-wrote to stave off a potential delisitng. Indy beetle
Indy beetle (talk · contribs)
- Hey y'all. I've been an active editor of Wikipedia since January 2016 and from the start was working on military history topics and very shortly thereafter joined WP MilHist. I used to work on a lot of World War II articles, but now I mostly focus on 20th century African military history, and some more recent work on some Reconstruction era conflicts in North Carolina. I've been serving as a project coordinator since 2020. -Indy beetle (talk) 22:05, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
Comments and questions for Indy beetle
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- My work with another user a few years ago to bring the battles of the Uganda–Tanzania War up to good topic status is probably my largest singular contribution to the project to date. This past year I also circled back to some of my older work to bring Operation Unokat and Fall of Enugu up to Good Article status and overhauled some old North Carolina content, Lowry War up to GA and Kirk–Holden war up to A-class.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- As a coord I try to regularly pitch in and help check the B-class assessments performed by the MilHistBot. I've also garnered experienced in the relatively obscure topic area of African military history, which allows me to offer informal advice to people who need it, and drafted a MilHist academy course as basic guide for people who might benefit from it: User:Indy beetle/sandbox/Writing about Africa.

Pickersgill-Cunliffe
Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk · contribs)
- Hi! I've been actively editing on Wikipedia since March 2021, working almost exclusively on MilHist topics. While my main interest and output lies in the realm of the Napoleonic Wars and naval history, I've more recently expanded into the War of the Austrian Succession and Seven Years' War, and also dabble in the First World War when my interest takes me there. You might also have seen me around the Warfare GAN page.
Comments and questions for Pickersgill-Cunliffe
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I most enjoy creating new articles, allowing me to bring light to subjects not already covered. As such Charles Richardson (Royal Navy officer), my first FA, was a fun milestone. My favourite GAs include the horrifying fate of HMS Resistance (1782) and the sordid career of Thomas Hardy (Royal Navy officer, died 1732). Expanding the Hanover Expedition from a redirect to a 3,500 word GA was also a very satisfying experience.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I can first and foremost provide a lot of time for the project, having much to spare. I have garnered much experience through my 72 created articles, 33 GAs, and 1 FA, and consider myself a somewhat experienced GA reviewer, with 43 reviews to date. As such I would hope to be an asset with reviews at ACR. I would also like to involve myself in the time-consuming and often backlogged AutoCheck reports, and to a lesser extent the B-Class assessment page.

- Howdy. I began editing in 2014 and became active in MILHIST a few years later. I was elected as a Coordinator last year to specialize in backlog cleaning and copyright cleanup; my work as a Coordinator has consisted of backlog clearing and closing A-class reviews. As far as MILHIST topics go, I concentrate my edits on conflicts and history from the Middle Ages to the present, but especially the American Indian Wars in Texas. My general editing preferences are generally the same. I am fond of old architecture. –♠Vamí_IV†♠ 05:13, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

Zawed
- Hi everyone. By way of introduction, I am currently a Milhist project coordinator and am standing for yet another term (my first commenced back in 2016, so I have been around the traps for a while). I have edited Wikipedia since 2010, initially on Korean topics before segueing into military history around 2011. My main editing focus is topics relating to New Zealand military history and during the 2014 to 2018 period I did a lot of work around WWI subjects to coincide with the centenary. These days I seem to be on a bit of an aviation bent, doing biographies of flying aces, mainly New Zealand but a few from the UK and Australia as well.
Comments and questions for Zawed
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I consider myself to be a content creator, so I always take pride in the articles I have created, which are mostly biographies. I have found battle articles quite tricky to write/improve so the Capture of Le Quesnoy (1918) and Siege of Ngatapa are highlights, particularly the latter which was a conflict in the New Zealand Wars and the first from that conflict to be an Milhist A-Class article. The quality of New Zealand-related milhist subjects was pretty patchy when I came along so I like to think that I have helped improve this although there is still a lot of work to be done.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- As noted above, I have been a coordinator for most of the past six years, so have a reasonable bit of experience. The work I currently is most contest- and assessment-related so will be continuing with that. Otherwise, I will chip in when and where the need arise.
