Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sportspeople

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sportspeople. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sportspeople|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sportspeople. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Fails WP:SPORTSBASIC and WP:GNG. Only coverage I found of Nuban is routine and this was the closest I could get for any significant, in-depth coverage to estabilish notability of him. ~ Tails Wx 18:13, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't appear to meet the general notability guideline. Coverage is limited to database sources, apparently as a footballer made 2 substitute appearances in 2012/13 and nothing since. C679 11:29, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Article fails WP:GNG. Simione001 (talk) 23:31, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Draftify Technically passes WP:NFOOTY, since he's made 1 professional appearance for a national-level club, but I would note that NFOOTY is an essay and not binded in policy, and the player section has been superseded anyway. I suggest draftification because said appearance was made only a few months ago, and he's 20, so pretty young in association football terms. Probably a case of WP:TOOSOON right now. 2A02:C7C:2DCE:1F00:383D:B8A4:4B33:8A86 (talk) 10:09, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
NFOOTY doesn't exist, so he doesn't technically pass it. GiantSnowman 19:37, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I already noted that it's been superseded, did you even read what I said? Reading comprehension and general effort seems to be lacking in Afd discussions. Mass created article by Lugnuts. Clear WP:NSPORTS fail since the only source is the CricInfo database and a passing mention on the Cricket Ireland website. This guy is literally an umpire.

DePROD'd by St. Anselm with the comment "international umpires - yes, even umpires - are generally notable", however, participation-based notability was deprecated by WP:NSPORTS2022. Nobody is notable simply because of where they've played or officiated. Mass-created article by Lugnuts. On the same day they created this article, they created at least 63 others (some will have been deleted in the meantime). Fails WP:NSPORTS. Prod declined on the grounds that an interview on the German Badminton Federation website (i.e., clearly not an independent RS), talks about media exposure, but since the subject was a commentator on TV for a short period that's probably what they were talking about, not actual media coverage of them per se. • Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Badminton, Olympics, and Germany. WCQuidditch 11:44, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • The relevant part of the interview under question is the following: [Interviewer]: Would you say that there was a kind of badminton boom in Germany as a result of its inclusion in the Olympics? [Kuhl]: In the short term, I would say. We had a lot of media attention at the time. I had to fulfill more requests for autographs than ever before. But after six months, that was over... According to that article, he was a four-time German champion and he was also a bronze medalist at the European championship, and after his career he coached the women's national team. Further, Germany is a decent badminton-ing nation with a global ranking in the top 15. I think its almost certain there'd be coverage of him, especially since he's being interviewed by the national association decades after his career (even if its an interview, it shows that he was prominent enough that there's still interest in his career, which would indicate that there was surely interest – and coverage – back when he was active). The coverage would likely be in German newspapers of the time – has any German newspaper archive been searched? BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:40, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    "We" doesn't mean "he". I searched what was available online. Clearly no such database was searched when this article was created, and it is on those wishing to keep the article to find such sourcing. Only a single hit on the FAZ archive - a passing mention in a report about the pair Karen Stechmann and Michael Keck. Not sigcov. FOARP (talk) 10:04, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    But when he says We, referring to German badminton players in general, and he was the top German badminton player from the time (or, at the very least, one of the top four), would it make any sense at all that there wouldn't be coverage of him? Why would a governing body for a major German sport interview him decades after his career if he was such an insignificant figure that not even a single newspaper devoted coverage to him? As for FAZ, that I can find more passing mentions of him in American newspapers seems to indicate that the FAZ archive isn't very comprehensive – If we had a Newspapers.com-like site for Germany I'm certain that there'd be SIGCOV to find of him. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:28, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    FAZ is the biggest German broadsheet and German newspaper of record. You're asserting the existence of something that doesn't necessarily exist based on an over-interpretation of a single phrase in an interview with something that isn't even proper news-media decades after the event.
    It's for the people asserting that there is significant coverage to go and find the coverage, not ask that people should just take it on trust, especially considering the history of the article-creator. Alternatively WP:BEFORE searching has to be proportionate to the effort put in to substantiating the notability fo the topic when it was created. In this case the effort put in by the article-creator was patently near-zero - it was created in mere minutes, if that. FOARP (talk) 20:22, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    FAZ may be the biggest German newspaper, but saying Kuhl's confirmed non-notable by the basis of searching one newspaper is equivalent to saying that someone is non-notable because they weren't covered in The New York Times. It only makes sense that if a player says that his sport received a good deal of coverage, and that player was the best player in that sport, that that player would have received coverage (who else would be receiving coverage then to justify that statement?). I think that a governing body interviewing him decades after his career would indicate significance; if he was some no-name that not even a single newspaper would give coverage to, why would the governing body cover the person decades later? Do you think its likely that someone who was a four-time German champion in a major sport, as well as a bronze medalist at the continental championships, would not be covered somewhere? As for Alternatively WP:BEFORE searching has to be proportionate to the effort put in to substantiating the notability fo [sic] the topic when it was created, no it doesn't. Would you say then that it was inappropriate behavior that I've developed several of Lugnuts' stubs into GAs, some after they were AFDed? More importantly, I was able to find a source that mentioned his email, so I contacted him and hopefully he can respond if he's been the subject of any coverage in the past. I can find no independent WP:SIGCOV of this cricketer to meet WP:GNG/WP:NSPORT. The independent coverage mentions him in the context of his father, who was a notable cricketer but from whom notability cannot be WP:INHERITED. All this stuff can be and should be included within List of Indian Premier League records and statistics - similar to every other cricket leagues. Also, this page is just WP:NOTSTATS. Vestrian24Bio 04:28, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, FIFA World Cup awards won't even be a proper comparison as it's an international competition as opposed to IPL which is a domestic competition. Vestrian24Bio 03:23, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Whether it is a domestic competition or international is besides the point. The basic premise of your nomination is that these awards are not notable and are merely stats. I presented sources from 6 different countries that prove that these are indeed awards–notable ones at that–which have received sustained coverage globally over the years. FWIW, here are some awards from domestic competitions: La Liga Awards, Premier League Golden Boot, Premier League Golden Glove, Bundesliga Awards. You also invoked WP:CONSISTENT in your nomination statement, which is a policy on article titles. Yuvaank (talk) 19:59, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTINHERIT, individual coverage of Orange Cap and Purple Cap wouldn't make the list notable. Vestrian24Bio 01:43, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTINHERIT is an essay and not a guideline/policy set in stone. The notability of the list itself is established by articles such as Scroll.in, The Indian Express, India Today, News18 and Wisden. It is seems individual articles on Indian Premier League Orange Cap and Indian Premier League Purple Cap, which were created by @Magentic Manifestations back in 2015, were merged into this list by @Vin09. I can see the reasoning behind the merge, although these two awards are likely to be notable in their own right. Yuvaank (talk) 09:31, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - People arguing for this topic being notable are arguing on the basis of individual items listed in it being notable, but notability is not inherited. Neither can an sub-topic inherit the notability of an over-arching topic, nor can an over-arching topic inherit the notability of sub-topics within it. Fails WP:LISTN. FOARP (talk) 15:30, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks for pointing that out. IPL's yearly awards are presented as part of the post-match ceremony at the end of each IPL final. They are covered as a group each year in regular news coverage of the final (e.g. [32]), as well as in post-season articles like [33] (comparing ESPNcricinfo's own set of awards to the official IPL 2023 Orange Cap, Purple Cap, Player of the Final, and Player of the Tournament awards). Preimage (talk) 02:08, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    As a side note, I'd appreciate it if you could also comment on the merge suggestions: the original nominator's comment All this stuff can be and should be included within List of Indian Premier League records and statistics sounds like a proposed merge (to be posted at WP:PM) rather than an AfD nomination to me. If you do consider a merge appropriate, I'd argue that Indian Premier League#Awards would be the best target (as this list was a WP:SUBARTICLE split off for reasons of length), but I'm open to other suggestions: you clearly have more policy expertise in this space than I do. Preimage (talk) 02:08, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    I'd be OK with a redirect/merge - it's verifiable content. Not sure about those sources: the first seems to be about the ceremony, the second about Cricinfo's stats. FOARP (talk) 09:13, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Re: sourcing, I'm working off WP:SIGCOV, which states "Significant coverage" addresses the topic directly and in detail, ... [it] is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material. The topic of the article we are looking at is 'who won the IPL awards each season?'
    The first source is titled IPL 2024 final awards and prize money: Complete list of winners including Orange Cap, Purple Cap and more. It's a beat report to inform readers 'who won stuff last night?', which starts by covering the events of the final, before switching to the award winners. It has a paragraph covering (what it presumably considers to be) the three most important awards, the Orange Cap, Purple Cap, and Emerging Player of the Season, then provides a full list of winners. While the article doesn't go into a huge amount of detail on each award besides listing its monetary value, the list of award winners shares primary-topic status with the winners of the final.
    The second source is an ESPNCricinfo post-season analytics article discussing who they consider to be the most impactful players from the 2023 season. It closely references the major IPL award-winners, starting with its opening phrase: Faf du Plessis, and not Shubman Gill, is the most valuable player of the IPL 2023. It reminds readers that Shubman Gill won the MVP and Orange Cap awards two paragraphs later: The Player-of-the-Tournament and the Orange Cap winner Gill was part of a team that had more batters who took up the slack, before noting the Emerging Player of the Season, Yashasvi Jaiswal, was 3rd in their ranking. After more batting discussion, it switches to the bowlers: Mohammed Shami - the Purple Cap winner - came second to Siraj in terms of Bowling Impact per match. While the IPL awards are only a secondary topic of this article, it discusses the four most important/prestigious season-length player award-winners in detail, alongside comparisons to the players their analytics suggest were statistically the best. ESPNcricinfo sources fall under WP:ROUTINE coverage. Vestrian24Bio 03:03, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    The ESPNcricinfo article we've been discussing here is clearly an in-depth news/analytics article (WP:INDEPTH), rather than WP:ROUTINE event coverage. To quote @Black Kite from the latest (2023) WP:RSN discussion in which Cricinfo/ESPNcricinfo is mentioned, WP:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 417#Reliability of cricket databases:
    You're assuming that both sites are purely databases. They aren't. They're actually some of the highest quality sources for cricket, regardless of the fact that their websites also include databases.
    Preimage (talk) 03:34, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    WP:NOTINHERIT is an essay though, not a policy or guideline. The list's notability can be established by articles such as Scroll.in, The Indian Express, India Today, News18 and Wisden. Yuvaank (talk) 10:00, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Relisting comment: Relisting as the discussion on what should happen with this article continues up to today. There doesn't seem to be much debate about sourcing but about whether or not this article is a FORK and whether the content are just stats or notable subjects in their own right. And in the past day, participants have brought up the possibility of a Merge which I think is due more consideration. But if participants could just refer to policies, not essays, and give fuller arguments than just a Keep or Delete and consider other options, it will make closing this discussion in a few days easier.

Comment I don't think that WP:BEFORE was followed correctly for this AfD. Per WP:AFD#After nominating: Notify interested projects and editors, @Moriwen, please add relevant WikiProjects to the article's talk page before nominating it for deletion. This article had no WikiProjects tagged so its deletion wouldn't appear on relevant article alerts pages like Wikipedia:WikiProject Athletics/Article alerts. --Habst (talk) 22:58, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep based on the provided newspaper sources quoted above. It's also worth mentioning that the subject meets WP:NATH for his 5th-place finish at the 1930 Commonwealth Games. --Habst (talk) 12:29, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. If the extent of the coverage in the paywalled refs are similar to the bare mentions in routine recaps quoted above, then the subject is nowhere close to meeting SPORTCRIT and GNG. Also a note that the suggestion to notify interested projects after nominating an AfD is absolutely not a requirement and is in fact very rare for nominators to do, and there is also zero obligation for a nominator to make sure every relevant project has been added to an article's talk page. JoelleJay (talk) 19:16, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    @JoelleJay, this wasn't a case of just one or two WikiProjects being missing – the article had no projects tagged at all. There is always an obligation to follow Wikipedia policies and guidelines to the best of your ability barring IAR, and I don't think they were followed in this case. --Habst (talk) 20:07, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    1. There is zero requirement for an article talk page be tagged with projects (and if there was it would be the responsibility of the article creator).
    2. The section you link states it is sufficient to list an article for discussion at AfD. It in no way obliges a nominator to notify anyone; in fact this nonexistent responsibility is equally shared by the "and others" in nominators and others sometimes want to attract more attention.
    3. The section you link isn't even part of BEFORE. JoelleJay (talk) 20:43, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    @JoelleJay, I think there is a misunderstanding. I never used the words "requirement" or "obligation" in my original comment, you are using those words. The full sentence of your quote says (emphasis mine), "While it is sufficient to list an article for discussion at AfD (see above), nominators and others sometimes want to attract more attention from and participation by informed editors." Simply adding relevant WikiProjects to an article's talk page fulfills the point in the "Notify interested projects and editors" section hence the suggestion. Part of WP:BEFORE section C prong 3 is to address issues with associated WikiProjects, which adding the tags is one way of doing. I don't think that point was followed in this case. --Habst (talk) 21:46, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    You are accusing the nom of having "not followed BEFORE correctly" and stated there is "always an obligation to follow" P&Gs which you think was "not followed in this case". The items you are complaining about the nom not following do not exist anywhere in BEFORE, which isn't even a P&G. "Not having talk page project tags" is obviously not an issue with the article that would affect whether it should be nominated, hence why project tags are not mentioned until the "nominators and others sometimes want..." suggestion in AFTER. JoelleJay (talk) 00:18, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    You're using very harsh words like "accuse" to characterize my statements that I never used. Whether Wikipedia procedures are followed is often subjective, and in this case I don't think relevant WikiProjects were sufficiently notified so I fixed the issue myself. Notifying WikiProjects about article issues is in WP:BEFORE C3, and AFD (which includes BEFORE and AFTER) is the policy-based way that we delete pages here via WP:Deletion policy. Adding WP banners is part of the article improvement process and there's no reason to discourage that in this case. --Habst (talk) 12:43, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    There is no obligation that nominators notify WikiProjects. You chastised the nom about tagging projects as if not doing so was a deviation from our P&Gs when it is not even an expectation in the non-P&G BEFORE. The suggestion to consider whether the article can be improved through asking projects about specific issues is not an instruction that one should do so, and, given that tagging projects is only mentioned in a mild recommendation for any interested editors AFTER the AfD goes live, doesn't even encompass that action. JoelleJay (talk) 18:20, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    @JoelleJay, I didn't use the word "obligation" because it's a funny word in that we're all volunteers here so the best we can do is try our best. I greatly respect your work as well as the nominator's; was simply saying that notifying relevant parties about an AfD that could be contentious is a positive thing to do that should be encouraged, and it wasn't done in this case. --Habst (talk) 19:33, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    There is always an obligation to follow Wikipedia policies and guidelines to the best of your ability barring IAR, and I don't think they were followed in this case. JoelleJay (talk) 20:50, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    I didn't use the word "obligation" in my original comment at Special:Diff/1269077727. The one you're quoting was in response to you using that word. Like I said, it's a funny word to use for sure other than in a context of saying we should try our best, which is what I was communicating there. --Habst (talk) 21:19, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

He only played one match for Torino in 2001/02 season, one of the professional football clubs in Italy, before moving to amateur leagues then disappeared for over two decades. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Her page is barebones and you can't expand it with anything that isn't promo content. She clearly isn't notable enough. Strawberries1 (talk) 03:12, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I follow what you mean by the subject matter being irrelevant or useless, Strawberries1? As long as it is SIGCOV of her, it doesn't matter what we think of the subject matter - the fact that there's coverage about who she's dating or that she had a podcast is fine to count towards WP:GNG as long as it meets the other requirements. And your personal beliefs like Taylor Holder being "a nobody" definitely aren't things that we can consider when assessing notability. The only requirements are that that there is significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Is there one of those requirements that you think isn't met here? MCE89 (talk) 01:20, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Keep The subject passes WP:GNG's multiple non-trivial guideline, and that's all there is to it. This may be the most common debate on AfD: Whether an article that is barely notable is instead not notable...but "barely notable" by definition means notable. This article is about a very minor celebrity who nevertheless has made the news. -Markeer 01:23, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    @Markeer, WP:N says even notable topics can be deleted if they fail NOT or aren't encyclopedic. BLP also requires we use the highest-quality sources. I would argue an article that can only really contain a timeline of someone's dating history based on pure tabloid churnalism does not warrant inclusion. JoelleJay (talk) 01:41, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    This isn't really a hill I'm going to die on as I'll re-iterate that I believe the celebrity to be a minor one, but to address your argument that BLP requires highest-quality sources, I'll remind you that, intuitive or not, both People Magazine and the Hollywood Reporter are listed in green ("reliable") on Wikipedia's list of Perennial sources (and Cosmopolitan is yellow for situationally reliable). I happen to personally agree that I would not trust those news sources on e.g. critical political news or world affairs, but Wikipedia consensus judges them to be reliable sources when discussing celebrity news.-Markeer 01:54, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    I'm not particularly attached to this either, I just wanted to point out that per NOPAGE and NOT the existence of coverage doesn't mean we have to include the subject of that coverage in a standalone. I interpreted your !vote as leaning toward the "sigh, I guess we have to have an article" direction and figured the above was worth pointing out. I think a decent argument can also be made that the depth of the coverage is also very lacking (gossip about IG posts suggestive of relationships). Regarding People, the last major discussion on it was in 2014, about the magazine rather than the online posts, and the gist of it was leaning more toward "probably reliable for straightforward facts, gossipy material on celebrity relationships is likely UNDUE". I'm of the opinion that there's still a difference between RS and high-quality RS, and articles on BLPs should be based on the latter. JoelleJay (talk) 20:05, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The People article is basically entirely just relaying what she's said, no secondary discussion. The Seventeen and Cosmo "articles" are tabloid trash—essentially nothing encyclopedic in either of them. Nine has almost zero info on her that isn't in quotes. THR has about one sentence on Ray, the rest is announcing a podcast she cohosts. Same with WWD, about some "vitamin gummies" racket she's the "face" of. Per NOPAGE, coverage existing does not mean we have to have an article! JoelleJay (talk) 01:33, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete little to no serious third party coverage.-KH-1 (talk)
  • Delete — (moderate) — Fails SIGCOV, and -- while it may not be immediately apparent given the vast number of articles apparently out-there -- I believe the vast majority fail WP:RS. WP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE may also be an issue, here. I would also take issue with what certain editors consider SIGCOV; SIGCOV is defined as "...address[ing] the topic directly and in detail... and is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material." Further, I would also contend that we're getting into WP:NOTGOSSIP territory with many/most of these sources. I would second JoelleJay's contention that the encyclopedic aspect of Wikipedia must be respected and acknowledged and that WP:RS is indeed a fantastic hill to die on, if any. • Comment - we could expand it with more information on her role in Save the Kids coin scandal. Bearian (talk) 03:18, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    She had no role beyond giving it a small endorsement. Strawberries1 (talk) 06:26, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • The criteria is significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject, and the sources seem to fail the analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or synthesis of WP:SECONDARY. Being such lazy regurgitations of primary sources (social media mainly) also makes intellectual independence questionable, in the same vein as interview responses. I don't believe this meets our inclusion criteria even without leaning on WP:NOT. Delete. Alpha3031 (t • c) 13:06, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable figure skater. While she did finish in first place at the 2004 Swiss Championships, her score was too low to be awarded the title of Swiss Champion. • Comment The first source provided has a few sentences, the second one is an article about her, albeit a very short one about her qualifying. The third one that blocked the IP appears to be about changes in the scoring system and is not about her. This SUBJECT appears to be below SIGCOV levels at the moment. In addition I have found a couple of brief mentions in the french media sites la region and arcinfo but well below what is needed to prove GNG. • Delete. Very far from SIGCOV. Both articles mentioned above are routine event results, from the same news site, and the latter is a couple-sentence announcement about a junior career event so is even further from counting toward GNG. JoelleJay (talk) 19:16, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

None of the sources in the article are all of independent, secondary, and SIGCOV: Maison Jeux Olympiques Albertville has a single namedrop and is of questionable independence, the two refs to the club are not independent, and the stats page contributes nothing. As I said, Cameremote, either provide proof of your allegations or stop making them. There is nothing inherently COI about defending an article from being deleted. Liz Read! Talk! 01:52, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just trying to point out to the editor that the way he's defending the article is somehow. He should purely suggest that the article be moved back to draft, for further improvement rather than over-defending an article. Note: I'm not alleging anyone, and if there's any offense taken, my absolute apolgies. Cameremote (talk) I came from a remote place 01:59, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Keep: The person in the article is clearly notable. Whether it passes WP:GNG or not is not really determinable as there is one source that is independent but I’m unsure if that suffices as it passing GNG. Although, it seems the sources are of Sri Lanka or newspapers mainly focused on cricket, the exception is Daily News.

Furthermore, I think it can he concluded that this crickteer is of presumed notability as he has been documented in multiple sources that range from 4 years ago to the most recent being a month ago.

In conclusion, I could see this article being of notability even if it’s a stub.

If the consensus is overwhelmingly delete, then I’d recommend it go back to the draft so it can be improved rather than delete because the information there is clearly of use and not useless.

Cheers,

  • Keep. This → [76] and this → [77] are lengthy articles about her and her twin sister (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kim Yu-jae).
    That's enough for me. But if you aren't satisfied, you can search like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=김유성+2009&tbm=nws. I've only looked at the very first page of results. --Moscow Connection (talk) 04:10, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    • CommentThis has originally been created as a WP:TOOSOON but the first article provided provides a good amount of info (the second seems to focus more on the sister) and as she is likely to enter senior events imminently I think it might be too hasty too delete the page so Draftify may be an option here unless more sources are found.Canary757 (talk) 07:45, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Draftify: Concur with Canary757 that while the first source appears to have some decent coverage there isn't nearly enough elsewhere for this subject to meet the guidelines. Per WP:YOUNGATH, athletes such as Yu-seong are only notable if "they have received, as individuals, substantial and prolonged coverage that is: (1) independent of the subject; and (2) clearly goes beyond WP:ROUTINE coverage." I don't think that is the case yet, but as it appears to be a likely possibility I think it makes the most sense to draftify for the time being. Let'srun (talk) 16:07, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There's another article about her in the same publication as above [80] which is about her junior career again. She appears to be mentioned on here [81] but it appears to only be a ciouple of lines. I have found lots of passing mentions ( such as [82] ) but no WP:SIGCOV so leaning towards Delete unless someone else can find something better.Canary757 (talk) 07:30, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable figure skater; absolutely does not meet the criteria of WP:NSKATE, with zero senior-level competition and zero junior-level international medal placements. Despite the volume of provided sources, most of those are competition results and databases, and what isn't appears to mostly be skating blogs. I'll let the community decide whether what's there qualifies as "significant coverage." Bgsu98 (Talk) 18:45, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: Of the sources uncovered in this discussion, I don't think the first three sources are WP:SIGCOV as they are all routine announcements and/or just a few sentences. The Journal deChambly articles look good, but I'd like to see at least one more source from another outlet before voting keep. Let'srun (talk) 23:06, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    There is some more at [91] from Le Monteregion.com. It's not perfect and focuses on him and his skating partner and its got quite a bit of interview in it, but there are details too about their career etc.Canary757 (talk) 07:40, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Light years away from meeting WP:SPORTCRIT and WP:GNG. Geschichte (talk) 14:59, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

KEEP, but merge with corrections — this article seems like a duplication of the already-existing Reo Nakamura (footballer, born 1990) and hence a merge into the existing article may be more appropriate, once the errors have been corrected. It seems like the author of the article has made a spelling error, instead of “Reo” (the correct first name) they have put “Ryo” as the name of the subject and (for some reason) changed their DoB from 1990 to 1989.
The article's own source shows the name of the subject as “Reo”, not “Ryo” (as the author has put) and the correct DoB of the subject as 1990, not 1989 (as the author has put). The reason the others (CC: @GiantSnowman, @CommunityNotesContributor, @QEnigma) could not verify/find sources was because the author wrote the incorrect information on the Wikipedia article. The career statistics section, especially, I feel could be merged into the already existing article.

Well spotted - but where is the significant coverage of this person? GiantSnowman 19:02, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For Reo Nakamura (correct name), I was able to find some through this Google search and this one1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 just to name a few.
At the moment, it appears the player plays for Ezra F.C., in the Pepsi Lao League 1.
~~~~ Nyxion303💬 Talk 19:30, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, your sources consist of match reports, database profiles and primary sources. Nothing come close to significant and independent coverage of the player. Geschichte (talk) 22:46, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In your opinion, would you say the player qualifies as being notable under WP:FOOTYN? Nyxion303💬 Talk 11:41, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:FOOTYN is an essay, not a formal Wikipedia policy or guideline, and has no relevance in AfD's. The subject must pass WP:GNG with multiple significant sources from publications independent of the subject. Alvaldi (talk) 13:47, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In any event, "The player section of this notability guidance has been superseded by WP:Notability (sports)". GiantSnowman 21:53, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Geschichte: Of the seven sources, only the fifth one signals significant coverage on Nakamura as it tells about his personal life. However, one SIGCOV is not enough; the whole GNG needs multiple instead. Transfermarkt is obviously unnecessary to be added to Wikipedia articles as it is claimed unreliable. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. *Keep 5-1 surely? With @Nyxion303‘s keep vote, and 5-2 now… not that this is meant to be a vote I thought 😊 Anyway, as you pointed out @Geschichte, the fifth of Nyxion’s sources was SIGCOV, and I have another couple to add. this[92] and this[93].   • Keep per Absurdum4242 and Nyxion303. I once again request that those nominating and voting delete on Japanese-language articles show evidence of a WP:BEFORE search that includes sources in Japanese and competence to evaluate them before doing so as that clearly indicates that there is significant coverage.
  • Delete per nom. Article does not meet WP:GNG due to lack of WP:SIGCOV.--DesiMoore (talk) 15:45, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - the coverage does not show a passing of GNG. AFC is two trivial mentions in a match report on a football federation website. Transfermarkt is a database source and an unreliable one at that. Football Tribe is another trivial mention. BeSoccer is another database. Indosport has some coverage but it references Transfermarkt and doesn't go anywhere beyond confirming his position, age, place of birth and previous club. That is all information that was just pulled from Soccerway and the unreliable Transfermarkt. Lao FF is blatantly not significant coverage. IDN Times is half-decent but doesn't go much beyond confirming his position, previous clubs and saying that he scored 2 goals against Tuloy. Soccer King trivially mentions him as a Japanese player in Myanmar. I've searched in Japanese but he has spent most of his career outside of Japan so I can't really find anything. I can find coverage like Ultra Soccer but this is clearly a different Ryo Nakamura as his age and place of birth doesn't match. This should be moved to Ryo Nakamura if kept.
