- From Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2012 January 29#File:File:Portrait of Randy Napoleon by Fay Kleinman.jpg (closed by User:AnomieBOT because of a wrong file name): "This is a photograph of a painting which is most likely (but not certainly) still under copyright. From the lower right of the image, it appears that this painting was completed in 1986. Unless it was published prior to 3/1/1989 (keeping in mind, of course, that exhibition of the painting doesn't constitute publication) without notice and without registration within 5 years, it is under copyright." - File:Facebook Logo.png (delete | talk | history | logs).
- Is this really a PD-textlogo? It looks way a bit too complex. Stefan2 (talk) 14:00, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't think it's PD-textlogo, but might be PD-self by User:Yamaaan. The problem is the sourcing is unclear. It says it's a derivative by Yamaaan of File:Facebook.svg (which is PD-textlogo), but if that's the case, the only portion used is the shape of the "f", and even there it's not exact. A Google image search turns any number of similar images without the 3-D effect, which might themselves be PD-textlogo. So I think it's possible that this is a user-created image that's a derivative of a PD-textlogo image. However, it looks like this editor has a history of uploading copyrighted works, so it's possible that this image was just pulled from somewhere else. cmadler (talk) 14:57, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Your image was reported because of wrong licence information (first it said that it was a free image and then it said that it was an unfree image without any fair use rationale). If you want to avoid reports about improper image tagging, make sure to tag images correctly. Two of the other files that you mentioned were tagged correctly, so there is no need to report them. The third image has now been reported: Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:New Wafd Party logo.jpg. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:55, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- From Octet (Stravinsky), apparently finished in 1923 and thus presumably published in 1923 or later. At the time when this was made, Igor Stravinsky was living in France. He died in 1971, so per the 70 years p.m.a. rule currently in use in France, this is still copyrighted in France. On the URAA date (1 January 1996), France applied 50 years p.m.a., so this was copyrighted in France on that date and so this is copyrighted in the United States for 95 years from publication. Becomes free in France in 2042. If already published in 1923, it becomes free in the United States in 2019; if published later, it becomes free later. Stefan2 (talk) 15:34, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree with Stefan2's assessment for the most part (French copyright grants an extension of 8 years and 120 days to pre-World War II musical works, so it will remain copyrighted in France until mid-2050); US copyright was restored/established by URAA and this should be deleted as a non-free file. cmadler (talk) 16:21, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- File has now been marked as fair use, which certainly looks legitimate (being used for illustration of the musical technique). PUF could be closed now. Fut.Perf. ☼ 08:18, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
