About Page Curation

Curating new pages is a hard job, but an important one. Page Curation tries to make it easier.

Page Curation is a suite of software tools for reviewing new pages on Wikipedia.

It was created to improve the page patrol experience, using two integrated tools: the New Pages Feed and the Curation Toolbar.

The New Pages Feed is designed as an alternative to Special:NewPages, which has now been in use in pretty much the same form for 6 years. Through the New Pages Feed, curators can pull up a list of newly created articles, with helpful information about each page -- showing if has no categories or citations, for example.

This list can be sorted to show the newest or oldest page first, and filtered as needed - only showing reviewed or unreviewed pages, for instance, or those that were created by new editors.

The feed also lets curators see information about page curation as a whole, showing the number of articles still yet to be reviewed and the age of the oldest one. It also features the removal of the "30 day limit", meaning that if pages are not reviewed, they will not drop off the list.

The Curation Toolbar appears at the right edge of any article you click on in the New Pages Feed. This toolbar allows curators to review articles, tag them, and nominate them for deletion -- all in one place and with a simple user interface.

The Curation Toolbar works a bit like the Twinkle gadget, but is easier to use and features several components that Twinkle does not, including an "info" flyout that allows you to see information about the page and its history without ever leaving it, and an easy way to send the creator a message.

This feature also includes other useful tools for reviewing new pages: for example, you can send WikiLove to page editors — or jump to the next page on the list.
