Who writes the history of art in Los Angeles? You do! Meetup with online magazine East of Borneo for a Wikipedia training workshop and edit-a-thon to build a better online history of Southern California art. This next meetup in the Unforgetting L.A. series is hosted by the Getty Research Institute (in partnership with L.A. as Subject). We'll focus on architecture and design, one of the Getty Research Institute's major collecting areas. As always, beginners welcome! We'll provide training for new editors with orientations offered every hour on the hour. Edit-a-thon participants will receive free parking with validation.
When: Saturday, February 21, 2015, 11am-4pm. Where: GRI Lecture Hall (map + parking info) Suggested Focus: Architecture & Design What to bring: Your laptop, power adapter, and any reference materials you'd like to work from or share. If you want to use GRI books: The library will be closed on the day of the event, but anyone can email reference@getty.edu before Friday 2/13 with a list of books from their collections that they would like to use during the event. Please include title, author, call number, and location (i.e. L3:Books, Library Annex, Storage, etc.) GRI will have the books available for you in the GRI Lecture Hall on 2/21. Background
Unforgetting LA is a series of Wikipedia edit-a-thons started in July 2013 by the online art magazine East of Borneo. We meet throughout the year at local museums and art spaces to train new editors and build a better online history of art in Southern California. Previous hosts include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the California African American Museum, and the MAK Center for Art and Architecture.
