Shaan Sengupta's repeated topic ban violation
Hi, I had previously warned @Shaan Sengupta: for violating their topic ban from ARBIPA[1], but they have disregarded my advice and violated their ban again.
- They edited content about Indian cricket adminstrator Jay Shah as well as mentioned the start of his term in their edit summary[2].
- Sourced a statement about Pakistani cricketer Zaheer Abbas in violation of ban from Pakistan (WP:ARBIPA)[3],
- Inserted Jay Shah 's picture taken in New Delhi and updated the details about his term in the infobox[4]
They were also told that they are not even allowed to discuss anything related to ARBIPA on their talkpage [5].- Ratnahastin (talk) 06:43, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Shaan last edited 3 days ago, so I won't take action now, but this is noted. voorts (talk/contributions) 13:56, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Voorts, I addressed the violation which I made unintentionally at the ANI when @Ratnahastin mentioned it on my TP. I followed the advise by a user in the thread itself when they asked me to disengage. I did so immediately. As far as this is concerned, I edited pages related to the International Cricket Council. I didn't edit JS's page or ZA's page but the ICC pres/chairman page. Just bcoz a person from Ind-Pak is mentioned there, will that mean that its a violation of the ban? The TBan is from pages under ARBIPA. How come ICC is covered under ARBIPA. Will that include pages which are related to a world body? Just bcoz a person from Ind-Pak is mentioned in it? If yes, plz tell me I will keep that in mind and make sure its not repeated. Thank you. ShaanSenguptaTalk 15:06, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, it is a violation. Jay Shah is an Indian adminstrator, the topic firmly falls inside ARBIPA's scope. - Ratnahastin (talk) 15:09, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- But that "Indian administrator" is a global (cricket) administrator now. Editing his page would be under ARBIPA. But how can content of a page of an international sport board be limited to a country just bcoz a particular person is there. Thank you. ShaanSenguptaTalk 15:23, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Shaan Sengupta: Your TBAN is from "all edits covered by WP:ARBIPA", and ARBIPA applies to "[a]ll pages related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, broadly construed". "Broadly construed" covers all articles about nationals of those countries. voorts (talk/contributions) 18:47, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- If you plan to edit an article that contains the words India, Pakistan, or Afghanistan, you should think about whether editing that article would result in a TBAN violation. If you have questions, feel free to come to my talk page. voorts (talk/contributions) 19:03, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- So taking this into consideration, I can edit those pages but not the parts which is in any way connected to countries IPA or their nationals? Is this the best way to define it? Also, I would suggest that there should be, if not still, a information page where all these things are defined in a manner one can understand and get a clear idea of. That would be much better for people to understand things. Also as suggested by you I will come to your TP whenever I need help. Thank you. ShaanSenguptaTalk 02:07, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

- I thought that an IP editor had added the name of the killer of the insurance executive, but turns out it was an EC editor. I'm restoring and will remove page protection. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:25, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- I also want to point out that I didn't insert the link to Luigi in the list of people but the user Arbeiten8 inserts it! 79.40.123.187 (talk) 23:27, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

- Hello, Voorts,
- This is a very precocious account who after 3 weeks of being an editor, is giving advice to more experienced editors on how they should behave. I've posted a query on their User talk page about a strange allusion they made on their User page. They interact a great deal with the editor who brought this ANI complaint and a couple other accounts created at the same time. Just thought I'd give you a head's up. Liz Read! Talk! 03:06, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Liz, I am confused here, I have never intended to "give advice to more experienced editors on how they should behave", I clearly state in all my messages, and have stated, that I am extremely new to all of this which is why I am always acting for help and advice. I am aware that the vast majority of editors I interact with are more experienced than me, I am just trying to be as helpful as I can as I try to learn more about the site. I'll refrain from replying after this as I really don't think that this is the place for this message so I apolgize in advance. L.E. Rainer 03:17, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!

Thank you for getting rid of that guy with an ego the size of the Hercules-Corona Borealis Great Wall. Maybe without them, I can finally edit in peace without their constant nagging and objections to every little thing anyone does ApteryxRainWing🐉 | Roar with me!!! | My contributions 13:56, 10 December 2024 (UTC) |

Re: ANI report, I genuinely thought I or another editor would have to provide a long list of diffs to get the point across, so very much appreciate your response to the situation. I also support your comment to the user, as the editor is involved in a very under-edited area of WP, that of women's football, and I believe is fundamentally capable of positively contributing to that.
