As someone who is targeted by the IP, don't bother engaging with them. They'll be blocked soon enough.
Dealing with multiple consecutive vandalism edits
Hello, thanks for trying to deal with vandalism at Gladys West and your efforts in vandalism-fighting in general. However, you didn't cleanly undo all the edits by the vandal IP there, making it more difficult for other patrollers to tell that vandalism had been reverted. The correct way to deal with a situation like that is to go to the page history, find the version before the vandalism, and revert to that version ... or use a tool like Twinkle or RedWarn to automate that for you. In this case, the only remaining vandalism was an extra space, but sometimes unreverted vandalism can be much worse. Graham87 (talk) 04:10, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Usually I do that I an extra space seems fine, I will to fix that next time. Lecket (talk) 07:57, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I've just gone through all your edits ... and please, please, just use Twinkle or RedWarn, if you're planning to continue reverting vandalism often. The fact that you try to shorten undo edit summaries by removing the revision ID and especially the username is unhelpful to other vandalism fighters ... and there's a set of standardised warnings that most people use (again, Twinkle/RedWarn can automate all of that). See my recent contributions and the edit summaries therein about some problems with your vandalism-fighting approach and addition of references (some of which were more severe when you started editing here). As for your more recent edits, I'm particularly concerned that you thought this edit to the list of cold soups needed to be dignified with a citation needed tag; it's some of the most ridiculously obvious vandalism that I've ever encountered. Wikipedia's content is very widely copied so mistakes like that can be highly damaging.
You might want to check out Wikipedia's page on what you're doing, recent changes patrol; when undertaking this activity, please either revert an edit or leave it alone. Trying to do anything else makes it harder for other people patrolling the article (either through recent changes or their watchlist). Graham87 (talk) 09:48, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, got it Lecket (talk) 10:43, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
