Regarding edits made to Jeff Buckley

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, DreamBrother83! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule img\.photobucket\.com/.*\.jpg\b, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 06:05, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your desire to improve Jeff Buckley, but not only did you upload many unsourced images, but you spanned your edits over 150 different revisions, making it difficult to keep track of the articles progress, and this is not good practice on wikipedia. I reverted the article back to the revision from before you started editing. If you want to contribute I would look over the wikipedia introduction and rules. License tagging for Image:JeffBuckleya.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:JeffBuckleya.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Jeff Buckley images

Hi, thanks for adding images to the Jeff Buckley article. I agree it needs some, unfortunately most of the images you uploaded will soon be deleted because the images are copyrighted. Only if you own the copyright or the owner of the copyright agrees to make them available under a Free Use licensing agreement can they be used on the Wikipedia. Please caefully read Wikipedias articles on this as referenced by all the bot entries above: Wikipedia:Image use policy, Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. They're complicated but are necessary for Wikipedia to continue to grow. If you do have permission to use some of Merri Cyr's photographs, let me know and we can get the photos added officially to the article by obtaining the right licenses and adding the right copyright tags to the photos. We have worked hard to get the Jeff Buckley article well cited and it's sources documented. My hope is for the article to continue to be cited and recognized and peer reviewed to be considered as a top Wikipedia article, but adding copyrighted images will take the quality of this article backwards and not forwards in that regard. Best Wishes. Dissolve 01:39, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Untitled2.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Untitled2.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:46, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff Buckley images

Hi, thanks for putting your time in to improving the article. However it appears you're still struggling with image licensing. While other websites or types of media may use certain images the large majority of these are not appropriate for wikipedia. This is because wikipedia is a free encyclopedia. However this is not meant in the sense of free "you don't pay anything for it" but free in terms of distribution, reproduction and, sometimes, alteration. That is why, as soon as you press "save page", what you've written does not belong to you and it is in the public domain.

Thus you should stick to images with a creative commons license or similar. A large amount of photos do not have this license and, especially in terms of Jeff Buckley, the photos are someone's property and living. If you have personally photographed Buckley then you may upload that photo with a free license. However, you may not do this with other's work without express permission from the author. Thanks. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 16:01, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It appears you have not read what i said and you're labelling images with licenses which they do not have, which could constitute fraud. You even credit David Browne as the author of this photo despite the fact the photo credits Merri Cyr! Regardless it does not have a GNU license and i'm nominating it for deletion. If you continue to purposefully mislabel photos then it could get you blocked. Also can you explain your reversion on the genres in the infobox?Sillyfolkboy (talk) 16:57, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm reverting your edits now. Please stop uploading copyrighted images. I have alerted an administrator regarding the false GNU licenses and noted them for deletion here. Jeff Buckley edits

Please avoid numerous mass editing. Some of what you are doing is good, but much of it isn't and it will a laborious task deciphering it all. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Four symbols.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 03:45, 10 January 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 03:45, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Jeff Buckley - Amazing Grace Cover Art.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Jeff Buckley - Amazing Grace Cover Art.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:21, 19 January 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. TomStar81 (Talk) 02:21, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's a DVD cover. I thought they didn't need citations? DreamBrother83 (talk) 02:23, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

we need to know where it came from; all of it. In other words, that non free fair use template needs to be filled out, not just added. If you can tell me where you found the image I can do the rest for you and the picture can stay on the site. TomStar81 (Talk) 02:27, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How do I correct this for future reference? Thanks. DreamBrother83 (talk) 02:31, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I filled it in as promised.
As to how to correct this for future reference: when you add the non free fair use template each of the fields in the template need to be filled out before you hit save. The fields themselves are explained below. TomStar81 (Talk) 03:59, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Non-free media information and use rationale true – WARNING: Add the article you intend the image to appear in on this line here. Do not add the "" and "" tabs, these are already a part of this template layout, so just provide the article name. (Incidentally, if you plan on adding the image to more than one article this template will need to be readded to include the other articles as well) does not appear to exist!
Check capitalization. Enter only the exact title of a single article with no link brackets or other formatting. It is also possible the indicated article was deleted.
Description

What does the image show? A dvd cover? A CD case? A chevy 69? Whatever it is, spell it out on this line.

Source

Where you got the image from. If its an external link, leave a link to the website. If its a screen shot, give the place where you took it. If its a scan, provide the book. Be as specific as possible here, the more specific you are the better the easier it will be to verify the image's status

Article

[[Add the article you intend the image to appear in on this line here. Do not add the "" and "" tabs, these are already a part of this template layout, so just provide the article name. Portion used

If the image was cropped, note that here, otherwise simple type 'entire image used' here.

Low resolution?

The images on site need to be of low resolution, and that number continues to shrink. If the image is greater than 300-400 px either in length or width, then it is not low resolution, so put no here; if its less than 300-400 px put yes here.

Purpose of use

Why do we need this copyrighted image? Usually, its for "identification and critical commentary on the subject matter in question", putting that will satisfy this filed. If the image is for something other than identification or critical commentary on the material covered, note that one this line.

Replaceable?

Can the image be replaced? If it can, then type "yes" on this line, but if it can not be replaced, type "no" and then explain why (the image is a unique historical event, the image is of a dead person, etc). Be clear and concise, you want people to understand that this is something that needs to stay.

Other information

Do we need to know anything else about the image? If so, place it on this line, otherwise press save and be done with it :)

License tagging for File:Pen Lake2.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Pen Lake2.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 07:05, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is a satellite image. Hence, I don't think there is any licensing.

A tag has been placed on File:Pen Lake.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ww2censor (talk) 01:11, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Don Mills Aerial Shot 2 (1957).jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Don Mills Aerial Shot 2 (1957).jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Replaceable fair use File:Sarah Holcomb - Caddyshack.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Sarah Holcomb - Caddyshack.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the file description page and add the text below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
 2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:32, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Flags in infoboxes

Please refrain from adding flags to infoboxes as you have been doing on Ontario related articles. Per MOS:INFOBOXFLAG they should be avoided as they're unnecessary and distracting and add no encyclopaedic context to the infobox. Thanks. Canterbury Tail talk 13:45, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
