Thanks a lot ! :) — Tomíca(T2ME) 20:16, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello and question
Hi Accedie, how are you? Any interesting news from WMF-land? I was wondering if you'd be interested in helping with a copyedit of an article I've been working on. A very dry, scholarly topic :) I started working on it during my Rfa and I think I've finally got it in decent shape, hopefully reviewers will agree. It's a bit more lighthearted than Meth Mouth or the KKK (my last two projects)--I think it might be a good April 1 TFA, actually. That's a long way ahead though. Any help with copyedits or feedback would be appreciated. Mark Arsten (talk) 20:27, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hey Mark! Lot of exciting things afoot – most recently, mobile editing! (It's pretty buggy at the mo, but still awesome :D)
- Of course, I'll be happy to take a look. I've seen references to this Church of the SubGenius thing, but it'll be nice to learn more as I futz with punctuation & prose... Accedietalk to me 04:17, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- Took a quick pass. Wow, you've become an amazing writer; I don't think you need my help anymore! You certainly put the cultural studies papers I read in grad school to shame. I added one suggestion on the peer review. Otherwise, awesome work. I'd be proud to see this on the main page on April 1st or any day! Accedietalk to me 05:02, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hehe, that's exactly why (at least) have kept active here. Where would I use my English elsewhere? I've decided to do an odd article too, but I don't know if you'd be interested... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:07, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- Come on, check out my contribs. Odd articles are my favorite! (I saw Frank's Cock on Mark's talk page – that the one?) Accedietalk to me 05:10, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- Of course! (I put it in my edit summary too). It's at PR and Nikki said she expects the main page to catch fire if FC is made TFA some time. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:40, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your compliments, it's great to be appreciated. I've learned from a lot of good teachers :) I had heard of this group years back (probably on Wikipedia) but Mathew happened to poke me about it and I saw that an academic had recently published a sizable book chapter on them. That gave me enough foundation to write a decent summary of it. Hopefully the FAC folks will like it too. BTW, interesting to see about mobile editing... although that would be dangerous for Wikipediholic! Mark Arsten (talk) 15:26, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Russian in Israel
Hi Maryana! As you may have already noticed I'm the creator of Russian language in the United States and I saw that you've made some corrections to the article. Few days ago I created Russian language in Israel and I would like to ask you to take a look at it and see if you can fix any problems, if there are any. Sentences beginning with in
Generally, sentences are more formal and well-written when they don't begin with 'in'. Which, for example, is the better sentence:
- 'In 2003, Spears recorded an answer song' or
- 'Spears recorded an answer song in 2003'?
Personally for me it's the latter. I find the first sentence to be written back-to-front. Till 11:19, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Edit-a-thon tomorrow (Saturday) in Oakland
Hi, I hope you will be joining us tomorrow afternoon at the Edit-a-thon at Tech Liminal, in Oakland. We'll be working on articles relating to women and democracy (and anything else that interests you). It's sponsored by the California League of Women Voters, Tech Liminal, and me.
If this is the first you are hearing of this event, my apologies for the last-minute notice! I announced it on the San Francisco email list and by a banner on your watchlist, but I neglected to look at the San Francisco invitation list until this evening. If you can't make it this time, I hope to see you at a similar event soon! -Pete (talk) 04:36, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Valley of Moche
Hi Accedie, nice to talk to you. Thank you for your message on my talk page about the article Valley of Moche. Thank you for tagging the article with page curation tools, for some other editors will come along and help with the prose. It's ok I'll be searching for some English-language references to add in that article. Best regards.--Antodeabout (talk) 05:17, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the correction, I've heard "ссать" so many times the "р" in sran escaped me. Spasibo (I'd write in Russian, but language bar is acting up). Buggie111 (talk) 01:40, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- No worries; they're very close... literally, I guess. Heh :) Accedietalk to me 01:46, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi, Accedie! I saw your name in the Category:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors members and thought: "Oh, good, this could even be accelerated." When I saw that your user page says you're glad to be asked for copy-editing, I was delighted. On top of that, I am not a native speaker of English! I hope you will find some time for the recently created articles about the slavery abolition activist Kathleen Simon, Viscountess Simon, and the anti-war activist Catherine Courtney, Baroness Courtney of Penwith. I've nominated them at DYK (here and here), but concerns have been raised about its structure and wording. Apparently, they resemble the wording and the structure of the source too much despite my efforts to avoid that. I would be most grateful if you could do anything about it. Of course, I would make sure that you are properly credited. Surtsicna (talk) 21:50, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hello! Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I've taken a look at both articles – it's probably the trickiest part of Wikipedia writing to avoid following the style and structure of sources too closely, especially on topics with few reliable sources available. I think what might help is restructuring the information a bit to make it less dependent on the narrative arc presented in the sources. I'll take a crack, but feel free to revert me if you don't like the changes or if I inadvertently end up plagiarizing the sources even more (I don't have access to them, so I don't know if I'm just making things worse...). These are great articles; thanks for your hard work on them, and don't let the DYK process get you down :) Accedietalk to me 00:15, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- No need to apologize. I did find it tricky and when the issue was brought up, I must admit I was somewhat disappointed. I've revamped the article about Lady Simon completely, but I was not lucky enough to find other sources for the article about Lady Courtney and only managed to do this. You'll probably be more successful in restructuring the information and I'll just make sure that we don't fall into a vicious circle of close paraphrasing. Thank you for encouraging me! Surtsicna (talk) 00:40, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- I already love what you did to the article about Lady Simon. It even helped spark an idea about moving the bit about Amanda to a more appropriate paragraph. Hopefully I didn't cause you a clash of edits. Surtsicna (talk) 00:51, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Glad you approve! I did a bit of shuffling & condensing at Lady Courtney, too. Take a look and make sure it's okay. Still need to expand the lead on that one, too. You and I have the same article writing style – I always forget about the lead as I focus on fleshing out an article, and then I have to go back and summarize everything. Comes from writing papers in college & grad school for me, I think, and always writing my thesis & intro last :) Accedietalk to me 01:43, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- I thought I was the only one who does that when writing papers! It is good to know that I am not that weird after all :D You've managed to drastically improve both articles without accidentally plagiarizing the sources. Thank you! Surtsicna (talk) 12:23, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Just a brief note. If you copy edit an article, make sure you do it in the correct version of English for that article! You added a heading with the word 'labor' in it. In British English it is spelled 'labour' - as indeed it is, twice, in the paragraph that follows. 86.133.48.61 (talk) 10:26, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
