Thanks for your super quick and helpful fix of the Abrams tank page (regarding that strange "zero hour conditions" claim! :D ) Sincerely, Dan D4n2016 (talk) 22:39, 4 January 2025 (UTC) |

Archive bot: MinThreadsLeft
Hi Fnlayson. As you are one of the most active editors in this area and respected by me for minimum 15 years and many others, i think its important to discuss main archive bot settings. As your revert of MinThreadsLeft at Talk:Boeing 737 regards your personal opinion of "default" archive bot settings of min. many article talks, i think its best to discuss this here.
About me: I am engineer electronics and multiple certified in programming and web design. Since many decades interested end experienced in physics and technology of aviation.
Statements:
- There is no real default setting of the User:MiszaBot/config. Look.
- Even if you think so, your "default" is just one of several copy/paste examples with no explicit regard of large articles/talk pages as a help for beginners. So lets do some advanced talk.
- Fact: 4 tiny threads, as on Talk:Boeing 737 or other large article talks, are giving you, who is spending a lot of time in Wikipedia (THANKS!), a sufficient or even good overview, but makes it unnecessary difficult to watch solved/unsolved discussions for less frequent editors like me, who is rarely editing in the last time.
- Fact: If a talk thread haven't been answered even for over a year, that does not mean its solved or is totally unimportant.
- Fact: Even if a talk thread is solved, it may be interesting for many editors to see and learn reasons why and how decisions are made. This can even prevent some unwanted edits or even edits wars.
- Fact: generally: large articles need large discussions.
- Fact: Yes, we both see the need to limit talk threads / talk size.
- Fact: Even if it takes a little bit longer to scroll down a talk page with over 4 threads/sections, as long as the threads/sections are limited to maximum 10 - for example 8 - the last section is quickly accessible by clicking on the index on the left side. Or over the slide at the right side. Yes, if there are too many threads/sections, even the overview of the index is slowed down, but i am not confused at all if there are 8 or even 10 threads/sections in the index.
Result:
- Proposal to set minthreadsleft = 8 instead of 4 to give many editors a better overview of the discussed topics while the disadvantage of reaching the last thread/section is very limited.
- Additionally setting maxarchivesize = 150K instead of 75k will half the (future) count of archives, giving IMHO quicker overview over the archives.

- Talk pages usually need to be fairly busy to justify auto archiving. User:MiszaBot is probably not working right at Talk:Boeing 737 since there were 4 sections (the min); I just changed this to 3 sections. -Fnlayson (talk) 00:32, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- If you don't know, what you are doing, why do you do it? Just because at Wikipedia everybody can do everything? Do you think that's responsible editing?
- Can we have an understanding that i do what is best for all Wikipedia editors and users concerning MiszaBot? 79.208.177.60 (talk) 05:40, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- That's your opinion. Use the article talk page for article issues, e.g. WP:Consensus. -Fnlayson (talk) 21:11, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
