Re: Cisneros

Yeah, it's strange – that article contradicted itself multiple times. First it said Cisneros was the first, but elsewhere it said that Alfonso J. Cervantes was. I tried to fix the discrepancy by changing all the descriptions of Cisneros from "first" to "second." Delaywaves • talk 16:35, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Help with disruptive editor

Hello. I saw that you have had a history with Film Fan, and have blocked him twice for edit warring. In the past he has caused disruption at Taare Zameen Par regarding the article's title and lead section. He was met with opposition then and gave up after unanimous opposition in a requested move, but now has returned and appears to be trying to start an edit war. If you've dealt with Film Fan or seen any conversations with him, you'll know that trying to reason with him is pointless. I was wondering what you thought I should do regarding this matter? Can I report him for disruptive editing, especially due to his numerous blocks in such a short period of time for this same matter? Thanks. Ωphois 01:58, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

This seems to be a different discussion than the move request, but it is a continuation of the edit war from September. I've protected the article for a short period to encourage the discussion on the talk page of the article and left a message there. If The same reversion occurs, please let me know, but do not engage in a tit-for-tat revert process with him... Sorry. I know this can be frustrating. Kuru (talk) 02:22, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
The discussion so far has nearly everyone opposing him, but he immediately reverted back to his version after the block ended. Ωphois 20:02, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
I restored to the original version until consensus could be reached, but he again reverted to his version. He's not a new editor who doesn't know better. He knows what he's doing and has been blocked numerous times for such actions. From his recent comments on the discussion, it sounds like he has no intention of stopping even if consensus is against him. I don't want to start an edit war, but after dealing with his disruptions for six months, I don't know what to do. Ωphois 15:36, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

He's back, straight out of his block, and back into contentious editing, as his history shows. Edit history. He's upsetting the cart over at Ansel Adams and David Gilmour, as well as numerous other pages. Chaheel Riens (talk) 06:43, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

And again last night on the same page. Is there really nothing that can be done about this disruption? - SchroCat (talk) 05:19, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Many thanks. I hope that he'll start off at the talk page next time, but I suspect not...! All the best - SchroCat (talk) 12:27, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
I suspect the same. Kuru (talk) 12:29, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Backend as a service discussion

Hi again Kuru, Just wanted to touch base with you again about the issue of including company names on the Backend as a service article. I'm also reaching out again today to another editor, User:Ceyockey, who had previously expressed a view similar to yours at WP:Companies. I'd really like to get all of us talking over at Talk:Backend as a service in an effort to find a consensus on how to do this right. Thanks! ChrisPond (Talk · COI) 18:53, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Hey Kuru, There's been some additional discussion over at Talk:Backend as a service about how to decide which company names we might include in the article. Would you mind taking a look and seeing if you have any thoughts? Thanks! ChrisPond (Talk · COI) 15:34, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

As you recently edited that article, I would like to run this by you. What do you think is going on with that new user JRussell? Looks to me like a single-purpose account with an ax to grind. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 16:13, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

There's a tremendous number of people with axes to grind against the DRT. I'm not sure how most of that is notable in the grand scheme of things, at least in the context of the shrine itself. Maybe some could be offloaded to Daughters of the Republic of Texas, with a summary at this article of "about every three days, there's a honkin' public spat over the administration of the Alamo"? Kuru (talk) 19:19, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes, a spinoff article might work, or at the very least might isolate it away from the shrine article, as the average reader probably doesn't care about the behind-the-scenes catfights. I'll see what I can do. Although if that SPA reverts me again, I might ask you for help. :) ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 21:29, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Should you change the visibility of revisions edited by Ps75 on the page Dominique Strauss-Kahn as content and edit summary hidden because RD2 (Gross insulting, degrading, and/or offensive material)? Eyesnore 22:08, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Aye. Will do. Kuru (talk) 22:12, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
You only removed the content, not the edit summary. Also, please unhide the revisions edited by Lugia2453 and Widr. Eyesnore 22:16, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
I've removed the three or four that were problematic; including one by the IP which noted re-added a problematic category. I usually just delete the block of edits, including reverts. Kuru (talk) 22:34, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

I'm not going anywhere, Kuru. My principal goal in editing Wikipedia is to improve certain categories of articles. Beyond that, I believed that I could offer the project a little something extra as administrator (and I still do), but I don't crave or need the job. I was just volunteering to lend a hand where I believe another good volunteer could be used. Cheers. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:47, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello Sir! I just want your intervention at Mukti Bahini. I added 'facts and figures' from neutral, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi sources, but two editors collaborated and reverted my edits. I did clean-ups and fixes in the Artcle too but they were reverted too, but they were reverted too with the reason of "junk". I had started the discussion at talk about the references for figures of killed Biharis, but the two editors combined reverted everything. They say that the references that I have provided them are not accessible to them(And This is not a reason of removing them). Instead of discussion at talk, where I had started discussion, they reverted my edits. An editor requested another on his talk, and then they both collaborated. They also made comments against my approved rollback request here. About the references for Bihari killings, they say that they are not accessible. I am new to Wikipedia relatively, and thus I came to you for Administrator intervention as I don't have any collaborator. I request to you to go through the Article's history and the Talk's history, I did not engage in edit war but they tried their best. Now you are only my hope. I have requested some other Administrators too! Pleae Sir! HELP! Faizan (talk) 14:15, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

User:Davidlee804

You deleted an unblock request from his talk page in which he made uncivil remarks toward other editors and the project. I restored his comments, because they aren't hurting anyone but him, and because no-one is likely to unblock. No objection to denying the request. If he persists in incivility, he could be blocked from editing his talk page. Regards, Edison (talk) 00:33, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, that's an overly passive response to a vandalism only account. If no one is likely to unblock, then removing the trolling and removing his ability to waste the time of valuable editors is an appropriate response. In the future, it may be move helpful to actually address the unblock request if you feel the need to revert my resolution, instead of leaving it for another to resolve. Mrm7171

I have a complaint about Mrm7171. He plays a double game. I try to discuss edits with him on his talk page. Then he goes ahead and makes edits without discussing them. And finally writes:

(diff | hist) . . m Occupational health psychology‎; 02:54 . . (+57)‎ . . ‎Mrm7171 (talk | contribs)‎ (Just made a couple of very minor additions. Did not delete or undo anyone elses edits. Please discuss with me on my talk page to come to consensus. Thanks)

(diff | hist) . . m Occupational health psychology‎; 02:50 . . (+25)‎ . . ‎Mrm7171 (talk | contribs)‎ (Please discuss on my talk page iss246 rather than undo my minor edit or engage in edit war. Please don't iss246. It's better to discuss than you delete. thanks)

Meanwhile, he includes text that occupational health psychology is a subfield of i/o psychology when I have labored on his talk page to explain that OHP is not a subfield of i/o psychology just as i/o psychology is not a subfield of social psychology and psychometrics or that health psychology is not a subfield of clinical psychology. I view what he has done as bad faith. This includes his groveling, with purposeful bad grammar, about how he has been picked on on May 26, 2013:

[[Category:{{unblock| Thats cool. I'm still very unclear abvout talk page and feel administrator may have acted a liottle demeaning. I've been patient with him. I find him full of bad faith. This sing-song of "let's discuss" and then he goes ahead and makes a bold move without sources that OHP is a subfield of i/o psychology. I think he should be barred from Wikipedia for his double-talk.Iss246 (talk) 04:03, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

On June 25 you blocked user 24.207.226.6 for 31 hours for adding derogatory, unreferenced information. This is just a heads up that the user has again inserted unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory content, this time to the Serena Williams article for which I gave him an "only warning". --Wolbo (talk) 13:20, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the note! It looks like MaterialScientist has already blocked him. Kuru (talk) 15:08, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Kuru, I wonder if you could help me out. Danrolo is a sock puppeteer. He resides in Santiago, Chile. He used to edit political party articles, adding all sorts of unsourced material. He was blocked by me in January of this year in escalating blocks because of persistent block evasion. After he was indeffed, he continued to come back with so many IPs that User:Scottywong created this edit filter, which he had to expand subsequently.

I just blocked User:201.239.253.57 as a sock of Danrolo. He wasn't caught by the filter because it's a new range. I was going to ask Scotty for help, but I didn't know he'd semi-retired.

Based on all this, what do you think would be best? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:36, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

I can take a look at it tonight. Have there been any other hits from him in that range, or is that the only one? Kuru (talk) 11:39, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
I have very few of the articles Danrolo edits on my watchlist, so unless someone else more interested in those articles tells me, I'm not alerted to the socking. However, I've taken a look at the editing history of some of the articles 201.239.253.57 and Danrolo edited and found one other IP in the range: User:201.215.255.97. It's tedious, though, because I know of no way to do it except by hand. As an aside and partly just to document it, I found a registered account, User:Alcastilloru, who may be a sock. I'll have to investigate that separately.
I have a question. Is there a way to get the list of all the IPs the edit filter has blocked? It might be helpful to tag all the IPs so we have a list of suspected puppets. It would also give us a sense of how much socking is going on.
Thanks for taking the time to help.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:33, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Request Edit

Hi Kuru. A while back you answered my Request Edit for adding Qualpro to List of management consulting firms, addressing the orphan tag on the article. I've made a similar request here to add United Country Real Estate to an index page on real-estate articles, in order to address the orphan tag. Was wondering if you could take a look. CorporateM (Talk) 22:39, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

I don't really like adding non-regulatory commercial interests into a navigational list like that which is intended to be about a broad encyclopedic topic. I did add it to the List of companies of the United States, and added some internal links to drop both of those maintenance tags. Hope that helps. Kuru (talk) 13:27, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
Works for me! I had that thought in the back of my head as well, so it's a good thing I used Request Edit for a disinterested editor to fix the problem a better way. Thanks again! CorporateM (Talk) 17:25, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Kuru, you removed hudoud alteqnia from the list of Saudi companies because you think it is [inappropriate for an encyclopedia]. I am not sure why is it inappropriate? Saudi is growing very fast and the list of companies should be way bigger than the one appears in Wikipedia.

thanksOalshamikh (talk) 11:57, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

I agree; find companies that meet our notability guidelines, write an article on them, and then add them to the list. There is no need for a simple directory of external links. Kuru (talk) 12:02, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Bill Gates

i saw you last editing the bill gates article and similar articles and i just wonder, is it really true that he remains at Microsoft as an non-executive chairman? because i somehow doubt it, i actually think be might be a semi-executive chairman or something like that and has some power left even if it is limited, i cannot find anything on google so can you please help me? 90.129.91.152 (talk) 16:18, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

He remains the chairman of the board of directors. I see no indication that he holds any executive position at microsoft. I'm not sure why you think the board chairman has no power; board members in most corporations exert tremendous influence outside of their proscribed roles. Kuru (talk) 00:37, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

It appears that the article you recently deleted (and I mark for deletion) was very similar to another article recently deleted by User:Materialscientist titled Greg fusco (which I also marked for deletion). Due to the similarity of the articles (they were exactly the same, except for the names), I believe they were created by the same person using different accounts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex3yoyo (talkcontribs) 02:24, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Sentence in Business marketing: I'm confused

Hi, I've begun to copyedit business marketing (diff) as a member of the GOCE). However, I've found a bit in the lead that I'm a bit confused by. When it says "Despite sharing dynamics of organizational marketing with marketing to governments, business-to-government marketing is different", does that mean that business marketing is different from business to government marketing? Or am I just completely on the wrong track? I've added a clarify tag temporarily so editors know about the problem (or be it my incompetence). Wyatt Andrews

Why did you erase Wyatt Andrews on KENS 5? --24.170.77.177 (talk) 03:37, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Wyatt is a national news correspondent, and has nothing to so with the local staff of KENS. If there is some connection, please annotate the local connection and source it. Kuru (talk) 11:33, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

You recently unblocked this user after being given firm assurances. Please look at his contributions record and at his talk page to form a view over whether those assurances have been broken. FAC for Bill Gates?

Hi Kuru, I saw you are the most recent editor to make significant contributions to the Bill Gates article, which is already at GA status. Given it's one of the most popular articles on Wikipedia, I'm hoping to persuade you to nominate it for FAC. I'd be happy to review it there or co-nominate it, but it wouldn't be right for me to nominate it given I haven't edited it at all. What do you think? Lemurbaby (talk) 02:03, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

My apologies for missing this. I don't really have the time to commit to a FA project. I'd be happy to help out where I can, but I usually get 5 and 10 minute spots here and there to play around. At some point, I'll be retired and will be delighted to annoy my wife by spending more time in the professional content creation processes... :) Kuru (talk) 00:34, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

My revert on User talk:Holdek

Hi, Kuru, I thought I should explain why I reverted you on User talk:Holdek. The only people who have posted in the ANI thread about Holdek and the block are the OP (User:Ymblanter), the blocker (me) and the blocked (User:Holdek). There was no discussion before Holdek posted, and there hasn't been any since; of course Ponyo's posts about ANI notifications and the persiflage from Drmies and Beyond my Ken don't have anything to do with the matter. My feeling is that, just because Holdek had the poor judgment to post on ANI without really addressing the problems, and I had the poor judgment to allow it… sigh… it shouldn't mean he can't get his regular unblock request reviewed by an uninvolved admin in the regular way. That's more "direct", to my mind. Anyway, it certainly looks like it's his only chance of getting the block reviewed. There just isn't any interest in the ANI thread. May I ask if you originally came to his page it order to review his unblock request? If you did, please consider doing so. I hate to see people having to hang in limbo waiting for review. Bishonen | talk 09:04, 18 October 2013 (UTC).

Si, my initial thought when randomly reviewing unblock requests was that an open ANI discussion he was free to participate in was a far better forum than an unblock request, which is more of a shortcut at any rate. I see your position if there is no discussion or he has chosen not to participate. I only have a brief period of time in the mornings, but I'd be happy to look at it this afternoon and review. Kuru (talk) 11:59, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Vandalism Curt Menefee.

There has been costant vandalism by this IP editor: 71.40.58.182 stating that Curt Menefee will be calling every Lakers and Clippers home game for the NBA on TNT. I have reverted his edit and warned him on his talk page about doing so again and I found no source for that. What do you think? Ashbeckjonathan (talk) 22:06, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

That's the same editor as 24.170.77.177 evading his block. I've blocked that IP and extended. Thanks for the connection. Kuru (talk) 01:52, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Ongoing sockpuppetry

Hello, An individual has been vandalizing articles related to Swaminarayan and Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha for the past several months and been using numerous sockpuppets to further his/her agenda in these topics (puppet master = Swamifraud). I filed the original sock report for Swamifraud several months ago and several other users have filed additional reports with more success. All of these socks have been banned and unblock requests have been denied by admin (including by yourself) due to the socks' edit warring, incivility, ignoring consensus, misquoting sources/stretching facts, libeling, etc. These socks include Swamifraud, Duarfimaws, Breadinglover, Sageorsun, Priyadaswami, and the numerous Detroit area/Wayne State University IP addresses. The individual continues to engage in the same behavior with intentions of pursuing his/her personal defamatory agenda. A new sock puppet has emerged named Bluespeakers, against whom two sock reports have been filed by other users. Most recently, this new sock has been reaching out to editors who are unfamiliar with the sock banning history to try to gain support. Link to current investigation and evidence: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Swamifraud Could you please assess and help block the sock? Thanks! Anastomoses (talk) 16:38, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

I would like to respond to the accusations that I am a sock puppet. I am most definitely not the same user as I have clearly stated that I personally know the users that were involved. If you are going to be taking a look at my case, do look at the specific instances where I did anything wrong. Certain users are patrolling the articles. I will make sure that the users that I asked for help. If you will be investigating my case, please make sure that you fully understand the history behind the issue. I revealed the university I attend and rebutted any arguments that certain users have tried to accuse me. I do not want to be doing anything wrong or malicious on this site. Thank you for your time. The users that reported just me are users that belong to a group Wikipedia:WikiProject Swaminarayan that only want to portray their religious group in a positive clean cut way.

I have this fantastic image of an editor leaving their computer unattended, only to have their disgruntled younger sibling jump on to pointedly vandalize the hell out of In My Brother's Shadow in order to vindictively have said brother blocked. Life Insurance / Death proceeds

On the life insurance page you reverted an edit made by me that provided a citation for the following statement "Upon the insured's death, the insurer requires acceptable proof of death before it pays the claim. The normal minimum proof required is a death certificate, and the insurer's claim form completed, signed (and typically notarized).[citation needed]"

This was done due to it not being a reliable source, if you actually read the source you'll see that it clearly states how and where the information was found (e.g by looking at the individual policies). Originally I was going to use a single insurance companies policy as the source, but that'd only prove that THAT company requires a completed claim form and notarized death certificate.

A citation has been needed for this since 2007.

Staceycmiller (talk) 03:43, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Then find a reliable source. No, a cheesy, ad-covered blog at some insurance quote farm does not suffice. Find published material with editorial control; if you cannot, simply remove the material that has been challenged for six years. Given the history of your additions, I'm sure you understand why this appears promotional. Kuru (talk) 04:00, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

about my edit on List of companies of Canada

It is counterproductive to remove red links. If you could create a good article then go for it. NorthernThunder (talk) 19:22, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

It isn't. I'm happy to run through the same argument for inclusion criteria on this type of article again if you'd like. You might want to start with a post on the article's talk page that includes some plan on how to curate a list of the 2.4 million businesses in Canada. I'd be happy to talk you through the reasons the inclusion criteria noted there work just fine. Kuru (talk) 00:48, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Reading through the wall of text this user posted, and your reasoned response, I would say that I did not call the edits vandalism either. In one way I would have liked to respond to the comments made relating to my posting on the talk page, but only because I always hate to let a potential editor go away unsatisfied. Having said that, and given that the user suggested deleting the account (yes, I know he cannot) or blanking the page, I have no problem with your actions. I will watchlist the page in case he reappears, with hopefully a sensible editing proposal.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:11, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Apologies; I'm travelling and can't look into it in detail. If I recall, that was an unusual one where the same unblock message from a COI editor popped up on an IP and a named account at the same time. I closed the request at the IP and moved the follow up questions to the named account. Technically, the autoblock he trigged should be long expired; so safe to close out the request. I would prefer the questions are answered, but that just a preference, and since the unblock is moot, there no problem closing the request. Kuru (talk) 14:40, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I'd asked the user to answer the questions, but I found no record of the block itself. If you have a chance to double-check when you're not travelling that'd be much appreciated. It's not anything which requires urgent attention. Cheers. -- Trevj (talk · contribs) 19:46, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
If it was an autoblock then I'm confused as to why this would then lead to an unblock request linked to a change of username. I must be missing something. -- Trevj (talk · contribs) 19:48, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
