Alert! This page started construction on November 30th, 2007 and will ALWAYS be a work in progress!
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. As a teenager, I played two years of organized softball. A loner in high school, I earned the nickname/handle Speedy as I ran through the halls between periods (as traffic allowed). Later, I was known as Computer Wizard for my apparent mastery of computer programming without any formal training.
In 1990, I won a national championship in Putt-Putt by winning the Novice Match Play tournament at the Georgesville Road Putt-Putt course in Columbus, Ohio.
From the early 1980's to 1992, I was involved in bowling and was in several leagues over the years. I also tried the local Amateur Bowler's Tour. In 2006, I tried to get back into bowling, and even joined a summer league. Unfortunately, on Father's Day in 2006 I suffered a major arm injury during a backswing and was unable to do any significant lifting with that arm for over two years, and I was forced to miss the last few crucial weeks in the league as we were fighting for first place at the time.
I first became aware of Wikipedia in 2005. For awhile, I was content just reading, and sometimes found myself so "drawn in" that I spent entire nights at times just...reading. :)
Then, disaster struck (or so I thought) with my third edit on January 22, 2007. What happened was I encountered my first reversion of an edit. At that point I kind of "soured" for a bit as I thought "how could anyone dispute that edit?"
I was then content on "lurking" until November 27, 2007, at which point I made more edits, and the number increased since then. In February 2008 I really got going, so you might say I was hooked! Yes, the Wikibug hit me hard and heavy. :)
Somewhere around April of 2008, I felt I had a good enough handle on editing that I decided to see where I stood, as far as admin material went. So I took the first step in undergoing an editor review and based on how that turned out that would tell me if I was ready or not.
Unfortunately, I never got the chance as real life took strong hold of me in June of 2008, and I never really could get back into editing, let alone Wikipedia.
After a forced wikibreak due to real life issues, I made my return on January 21, 2009 to something I so dearly love doing! :0
Upon returning, I found that some of my Wikiknowledge had left me, so I made the decision to not pursue an adminship at the present time, as I need to build my Wikiknowledge back up before I attempt another run at the mop.
However, on September 14, 2009, I reversed that decision and thought why the hell not?. It's not like I'm going to break anything by trying, and the worst that could happen is not getting a single support, so off I went! The next day, given the direction my RFA was going, I decided it would be best to withdraw given the concerns over my CSD work. I will try again in a few months.
On July 8th, 2010, I again attempted another RFA, which failed worse than my first one. Again, I will learn from it and improve enough to be trusted with the tools at some future point in time. Shortly thereafter, I decided it was time for another wikibreak.
On January 1st, 2011, I made another return to editing after a 5-month long absence.
Why am I here?
When I saw the vast amounts of vandalism occurring, along with some grammatical and spelling errors, I thought that I could be an asset by helping to revert the vandalism, and correct the spelling mistakes I saw.
Today, I am primarily a vandal fighter, but I am also starting to create and expand articles, and hope to one day create an article and see it up to FA status. I also welcome new users and have participated in the WP:RFA, XfD, WP:CSD, WP:ARV, WP:AIV and WP:UAA areas.
In the summer of 2014, I added my name to the AfC participants list and I started taking on the task of moving pages from the WT:AFC namespace to the draft namespace as per the village pump proposal.
