Career
Music
Andrew Browning is the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for Andrew Browning and the 9 Pound Hammers, a Los Angeles based rock band known for its gritty Americana sound. The band has been celebrated for its authentic storytelling and dynamic performances. Browning worked as a musician in Los Angeles throughout his 20s in multiple rock bands before switching careers and moving into tech but returned to music after a 15-year hiatus to form Andrew Browning and the 9 Pound Hammers. Their first release, Blood On The Door (2021), came in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic with themes that reflect isolation and the breaking down of societal norms. They followed up with their second release, The Midnight Desert Talk Radio (2022), inspired by the flight of Angelenos to the high desert and a reflection of a misspent youth spent listening to Art Bell through the night. Their third release, Love is a Beautiful Thing (2024), investigates life and love in the cracks and crevices of the hard-scrabble American existence. Browning's music has received widespread acclaim, with features in outlets like On Stage Magazine, Vox Wave, Americana Highways, and Music-News. His work reflects a deep connection to themes of love, resilience, and the complexity of modern life.
Technology and Academia
When not on tour, Browning is the Research Web and Data Platforms Manager for the Office of Advanced Research Computing at UCLA where his work focuses on artificial intelligence applications in the areas of Smart Manufacturing, resilient supply chains, medical and dental self-care, and immersive experiences. Browning's expertise in technology complements his artistic endeavors, reflecting his commitment to innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. *
