Talk:The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Sequel release date

In the Mario Day 2024 YouTube video, Shigeru clearly states the sequel is releasing on April 3, 2026.

Will The Super Mario Bros Movie 2 Be Released And What Will It Look Like? Also, what will it be about? 5.81.3.138 (talk) 21:57, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We know when it's coming out, but that's all we know. See the film's draft page for more info. SleepDeprivedGinger (talk) 00:34, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The main page summary reads: "Also, the sequel needs to include 8 main characters omitted from this first film." Although it is cited, it reads like opinion and seems inappropriate for the wiki entry, especially the summary section. Please consider removing this sentence. Gcalig (talk) 19:26, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Whereabouts is this mentioned? I've looked at the draft and the draft talk pages, but never is this sentence included. SleepDeprivedGinger (talk) 20:27, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lumalee voice actor

The source crediting the director's daughter for voicing the Luma doesn't actually mention her. Can someone please fix? 174.89.38.90 (talk) 04:54, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add Citation

Hello, I wanted to add a citation for one of its awards. The movie received a Movieguide award this year and I wanted to provide a link to the website where this award is listed. https://movieguideawards.com/tag/2024/. Thank you AB12349 (talk) 17:31, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I will be reviewing this article, expect the initial remarks soon! Vestrian24Bio 06:03, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Yovt: you have only made 22 edits to the page and you asked another user to backup your nom, but they (SleepDeprivedGinger) have done only 17 edits to this page. Neither of you don't even appear on the Top 50 authors list, thus I'm failing this nomination. Vestrian24Bio 06:14, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Yovt: I have re-opened the review now as you requested at my talkpage. I will continue the review. Vestrian24Bio 03:18, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

@Yovt:

  • EARWIG shows 56.4% - possible violations.
  • According to link-dispenser,
    • 5 refs need an archive link.
    • 1 ref that could be down doesn't have an archive link.
  • Remove Box Office Mojo, Rotten tomatoes and Metacritic links from "External links" section, as they could be used as inline citation. Done
  • Are refs 16, 38, 47, 56, 92, 94, 106, 107, 125 and 134 reliable?
  • Remove the "See also" section. Done

Vestrian24Bio 03:30, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Refs show up as marginally reliable by WP:RSP; will look into them individually. 𝚈𝚘𝚟𝚝 (𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚔𝚟𝚝) 17:10, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • No need for the link to 1986 film, as it has a distinctive title. Done
  • Link L.A. Live in the lead. Done
  • Mention film's runtime somewhere in the "Release" section. Done
  • Remove refs 1, 2 from infobox. Done
  • It should be List of Mario franchise characters in the "Voice cast" section hatnote. Done

Vestrian24Bio 13:34, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • No need for the Golden Globes ref in the lead. Done
  • Link publishers in all refs (wherever applicable).
  • In the voice cast section, only a description should be given, no need to repeat plot points. Done Also, no need for ref 6 throughout the list. Done
  • Isn't there a relevant link for Jungle Kingdom, Magikoopa, Penguin King and Snow Kingdom...Doesn't seem to be the case; Magikoopa and Kamek have the same target
  • "the teaser formally revealed the film's title, The Super Mario Bros. Movie." - add a source here. Done
  • Align directors' image to the left side. Done
  • No need for refs on image captions / footer text. Done
  • "portrayal in the Mario Kart games" - add a source here at the end of the paragraph. Done
  • "credited' head of story Ed Skudder with storyboarding" - what does 'credited' means here?Replaced with "elected"
  • Link L.A. Live in the Release section. Done
  • "In celebration of World Intellectual Property Day 2023, a movie screening of The Super Mario Bros. Movie took place on April 28" - should be mentioned in the prose somewhere. Doneish
  • Format the last part as following,
== References ==
=== Notes ===
{{notelist}}
=== Citations ===
{{reflist}}
== External links ==

 Done

Hello @Vestrian24Bio, these comments have been addressed, though I will note the linking to publisher will take some time. Any more comments would be greatly appreciated, thank you. 𝚈𝚘𝚟𝚝 (𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚔𝚟𝚝) 15:29, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Add alt texts for the images. Done
  • No need for the first note on infobox. Done
  • No need for formatting in alt texts. Done
  • Link publishers in all citations.
  • Could have more citations on the "Internet leak" section. Done
  • Third sentence of the "Box office" section should be re-written as, It also became the first film based on a video game to gross $1 billion worldwide,<ref> the highest-grossing animated film of 2023,<ref> and the second highest-grossing film of 2023 after Barbie.<ref> Done
  • MOS:FILMBOXOFFICE says to avoid terminology such as "domestic", "international" and "North America".
  • "initially projected to gross roughly $125 million from 4,025 theaters in its five-day opening weekend. It was also expected to gross roughly $100 million internationally" - contradicting figures.Removed
  • "After making $31.7 million on its first day and $26.5 million on its second, five-day estimates were raised to $141 million. Projections were re-adjusted yet again to $191 million after the film made $55 million on Friday. The film went on to debut to $146.4 million during the traditional three-day weekend and $204.6 million over the five-day frame" - condense this sentence, no need for a day-by-day statement. Done
  • " its $190.8 million lifetime gross to become the top-grossing video game adaptation ever" - domestic or international?Has been removed
  • No need to list Transformers, Minions, Quantumani - article's about this movie only. Also, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 seems over-detailed here. Done
  • Same for the second paragraph. DoneThough Frozen 2 is a bit more important that it'll stay unless ordered otherwise
  • The entire "Domestic" section seems to be over-detailed.Your comments diluted its detail, please advise if not enough
  • The "Other territories" section should be re-written. Done
  • First 3 refs are enough after "mixed reviews from critics". Done

Vestrian24Bio 11:32, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Add the year after "On October 6" in the first sentence of marketing. Done
  • No need for the year 2023 in the last paragraph. Done
  • Twitter account name is not necessary here. Done
  • Remove "and as such became the highest-grossing film of 2023." Done
  • "over-performed in other territories" - ?
  • Remove the decline percentages, just the gross figures are enough. Done
  • No need to link the countries - WP:GEOLINK. Done
  • "In its fourth weekend, it added $68.3 million from 80 territories, including a $14.3 million debut in Japan—the highest opening for an animated studio film in the country" - source?Added
  • Link Spider-Man: No Way Home. Done
  • The Original Nintendo themes note is missing a full stop and a ref.I assume the full stop to be a punctuation "."
  • "as many Nintendos as Nintendon'ts" -- ?? should have a [sic]. Done
  • Should rewrite the CinemaScore and PostTrak sentence more clearly. Done
  • The "Critical response" section is also over-detailed, a one-sentence summary/highlight of each review is enough. Done
  • Link Cinematic Box Office Achievement in the lead. Done
  • Add a KCA winners ref.
  • According to MOS:FILMACCOLADES, "Awards included in lists should have a Wikipedia article to demonstrate notability", so remove HPA, GAFCA, SCL from the article.
  • Check the date on Movieguide Awards.
  • Link 2024 Movieguide Awards and Movieguide Award for Best Movie for Families. Done
  • It's MTV MIAW Awards, not millennial since 2016. Done
