Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.
If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)
I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.
Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs)
Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

Prose
Lede
- Do we need to link "Northern Irish"? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:46, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- With interest in professional snooker in decline, he was one of four entries for the 1957 World Championships, and lost to John Pulman in the final despite being ahead in the early stages. - this should probably be reordered to say he reached the final first, rather than downplay it so much. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:46, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Lede seems to miss out some details from the body - when he turned professional, his world rankings high, death, etc. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:46, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Amended. Let me know if you think there's anything else worth including in the lead. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:04, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
General
- We should still link terms in first usage in body - so things like snooker etc. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:48, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Added a couple of links - any more to do? BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:10, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- He was demobbed in 1946, having not played snooker for over five years - this makes it sound like he was demobbed due to not playing snooker. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:48, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Rea would go one better in 1954/55 and would secure that year's event by winning all his eight matches, - I don't really like the phrase "would go one better" one better would be to win another frame. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:56, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Rea claimed that once, after Higgins had insulted Rea's wife Betty, Rea (who had been in the Commandos) "laid [Higgins] out". - I feel like him being in the Commandos and being able to punch someone aren't exactly equivalent. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:56, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Amended per the points above. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 13:03, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
Review meta comments
- I'll begin the review as soon as I can! If you fancy returning the favour, I have a list of nominations for review at WP:GAN and WP:FAC, respectively. I'd be very grateful if you were to complete one of these if you get time. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:34, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- I actually know next to nothing about Jackie Rea, so I'm looking forward to reading this one. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:36, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, Lee Vilenski. I didn't know much about him before either, although I was looking through some of my old stuff a while ago and realised that I saw him play at the 1987 World Doubles Championship. Hopefully I've addressed your points above but let me know about anything else that is required. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 15:20, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
