Talk:JD Vance

“Has served” as 50th VP?

Shouldn’t this read “is serving”? I don’t get this. HockeyCowboy (talk) 20:31, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Since changes to "...serving as..." GoodDay (talk) 16:19, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer “is serving”. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:37, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There's already an "is" in the sentence. I changed it from "has served as" to "serving as". BBQboffingrill me 03:05, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"has served" is a grammatical trick some users use to make it easy to change when they leave office. You just remove the "has" when their term is up. TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 03:09, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's years from now, and we shouldn't make things more confusing just for convenience. Wikieditor662 (talk) 03:53, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vice presidency (2025–present)

Vance being sworn in as vice president by Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh on January 20, 2025

On January 20, 2025, Vance was sworn in as the 50th vice president of the United States.[1] Before his inauguration, Vance held a meeting with China's vice president Han Zheng in which they discussed China–United States relations.[2] Among his first acts as vice president was swearing in Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the first of Trump's cabinet nominees to be approved by Congress, on January 21.[3]

Change the word “elect” in the sentence “On January 24, he cast the tiebreaking vote to elect Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.” to “confirm”.

Cabinet secretaries are not elected, they are appointed and either confirmed or rejected. HidyHoTim (talk) 04:49, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Someone else changed it as you requested. Thank you very much! Wikieditor662 (talk) 04:59, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The vice president should be capitalized. 8.9.88.13 (talk) 15:23, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Replace "Vance is an outspoken critic of childlessness and has acknowledged the influence of Catholic theology on his sociopolitical positions" With "Vance has acknowledged the influence of Catholic theology on his sociopolitical positions". Saying he is an "outspoken opponent of childlessness" and including that in the top section is completely exaggerated and unsourced Pajamahop (talk) 03:13, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit extended-protected}} template. It seems like a core part of who he is.[1] – Muboshgu (talk) 03:29, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"invovled"

Remove reference to grandparent monikers.

Section 'Early life, military service, and education' mentions maternal grandparent monikers, which is irrelevant as these don't even get picked up in the rest of the article. Requesting removal. 2001:9E8:AA9:7500:40E2:E3E2:A3D8:B393 (talk) 11:29, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The provided NPR source covered his grandmother. The relevence of her name usage is not dependent on the rest of the article. —ADavidB 18:12, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

We should change the current infobox portrait to the high quality version

There is a higher quality version of Vance's portrait that should be used here: File:VancePortrait4K.jpg PublicDomainFan08 (talk) 20:23, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
