Talk:Gulf of Paria crossing

Question

When did the land bridge between Venezuela and Trinidad collapse? How long has Trinidad been a island? 64.98.119.175 (talk) 00:43, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Trinidad and Tobago a part of North America?

Why is Trinidad and Tobago classified as a North American country? This doesn't make sense. This island country is located on the South American continental shelf. The island of Trinidad is only 11 kilometres (6.8 miles) from the South American coast, and visible across the Gulf of Paria on a clear day. A good open-water swimmer can actually swim from Trinidad to mainland South America.

I noticed that most island countries have been grouped into continents by proximity, for example, Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines are considered parts of Asia, the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom are considered parts of Europe, and Madagascar is considered a part of Africa. By the same logic, shouldn't Trinidad and Tobago be considered a part of South America? 14.203.165.238 (talk) 06:06, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
