The article says:

Chandra Shekhar was born on 17 April 1927 in a Rajput family at Ibrahimpatti, a village in Uttar Pradesh. He came from a poor farming family.^[1][2]

• Page 59 of The Long March: Profile of Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar says: "Born, nearly 63 years ago, on July 1, 1927 at Ibrahimpatti of Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh Chandra Shekhar 'Singh'..."
• The office of Prime Minister: A largely north Indian upper-caste, Hindu affair says that two Prime Ministers "have been Rajputs/Thakurs (V P Singh and Chandra Shekhar)" and "eight are from Uttar Pradesh (Nehru, Shastri, Indira, Charan Singh, Rajiv, V P Singh, Chandra Shekhar and Vajpayee)". It does not mention his date of birth.

Although Shri Chandrasekhar was born into a Zamindari family, nowhere his surname or family name is used as a suffix as is the custom. Did he by choice not use any sur/family name or what was the background?
