Merging this page with "Agouti (gene)" has made all the links to this page less useful. A link to this page used to show simply and clearly that what was meant was "a type of fur coloration in which each hair displays alternating bands of dark and light pigmentation" and gave illustrations. Now those links are not useful - you need to know what "agouti" means, before you can spot the part of the article that is relevant. --Tony Wills (talk) 10:45, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree; the merge is terrible. I had to ask english.SE because I couldn't find the term again. The gene page in its current state has no explanation whatsoever of what it actually means in terms of coloration. This page either needs to be undeleted (my vote, likewise considering the links here), or the content needs to be actually incorporated into the gene article. Right now, what we've effectively done is delete the page for no reason. (In fact, it appears this has happened twice, with no discussion on either occasion.) I have unmerged the page (again), and also expanded it and added some references. On that note, I feel like "'salt and pepper' hair" deserves a link, but don't know where there is a suitable description (it doesn't belong in this article). Mwoehlke (talk) 22:34, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
At the time of the merge, the Agouti (gene) article covered everything this one did but in more detail. However shortly afterwards, someone replaced it with stuff that should have gone on the Agouti-signaling protein page. Therefore, even though the initial merge was not a mistake, keeping this separate at least for now may be a good idea. Iamnotabunny (talk) 21:09, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Unmerged
The merge of this stub was done without prior discussion and seems inappropriate given the number of pages linking here to specifically illustrate the agouti colouration without requiring readers decipher a page about the gene. It is not readily apparent from the gene page what the reference to agouti colouration is. I have reversed the merge for the time being and welcome discussion about alternatives --Tony Wills (talk) 08:14, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
