Rudolstadt is a town in Germany. It is located in the Bundesland of Thuringia (German: Thüringen), close to the Thuringian Forest (German: Thüringer Wald) to the southwest, and to Jena and Weimar to the north.
The former princely residence Rudolstadt is build along the River Saale inside a wide valley surrounded by woods.
The city was founded in 776 and owns the municipal law since 1326. The town's landmark is the Castle Heidecksburg which is enthroned on a hill above the old town. Rudolstadt became popular through the Anchor Stone Blocks and porcelain-factories.
Rudolstadt also hosts Germany’s biggest folk, roots and
world music festival (Tanz&FolkFest) taking place annually on the first full July
weekend.
