WikiCup 2014 September newsletter

In one month's time, we will know our WikiCup 2014 champion. Newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) has taken a strong lead with a featured list (historical coats of arms of the U.S. states from 1876) and a raft of featured pictures. Reigning champion Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) is in second place with a number of high-importance biology articles, including new FA Isopoda and new GA least weasel. Scotland Casliber (submissions), who is in his fifth WikiCup final, is in third, with featured articles Pictor and Epacris impressa.

Signups for the 2015 WikiCup are open. All Wikipedians, new and experienced, are warmly invited to sign up for the competition. Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may also like to sign up for the GA Cup, a new WikiCup-inspired competition which revolves around completing good article reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. American Craft Council

Hi Gobonobo - I notice you added a very nice infobox to American Craft Council. Since you have given latitude and longitude, I wonder if it would also be appropriate to add the address that is associated with them. I do not know it.--Foobarnix (talk) 23:27, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing. gobonobo + c 23:30, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm writing to let you know that the logo which had been placed on Thefederalist.com apparently belongs to a different web site. See http://web.archive.org/web/19981111191626/http://www.federalist.com/ -- Federalist.com was using that in 1998, whereas Thefederalist.com did not begin until 2013 (and uses a different logo -- see http://thefederalist.com/). Hence, it may no longer even be appropriate to keep File:Thefederalist.gif in Wikipedia as it would no longer be used in an article and thus no longer be subject to fair use criteria. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 16:10, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Metropolitan90. I think I've got the right one now at File:Federalist logo.png. gobonobo + c 00:09, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mike Dukakis

Hi- I thought that my adding the issue of the yellow barrels to Mike Dukakis's page helped, though the fact is the epitome of trivial, flesh him out as a unique & sometime quirky political figure. I'm sure I could dig up a citation if that is the issue. Anyway, new at this, apologies if not using talk page correctly.Innisfree4thee (talk) 17:52, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Innisfree4thee. I undid your edit where you added a claim that Dukakis was remembered for "a quixotic quest to eliminate the use off yellow barrels as highway markers" because it was unsourced. Minor incidents from people's careers such as that one are usually not added to articles, as they provide undue weight (see WP:UNDUE/WP:BLP). gobonobo + c 00:40, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
