There are about 12 Catalonia articles up for deletion (see today's AFD's). Most are on obscure political historical topics, have no editors, and no sources, but good content. One suggestion would be to create a "Political History of Catalonia" article and put all of those orphans into it and bring them out of obscurity so that they can get a bit of attention.     The Spanish Empire reached its maximum expansion when it joined Portuguese Empire.

It occured in 1580, and everything continued going OK until 1640, date in which Portugal wanted to be independent again. Hi, folks. A while back I wrote an article on Japanese composer Minako Hamano which was deleted from the English Wikipedia as "unexpandable." Lest the research go to waste, I'd like to add the information to her entry in other language Wikipedias, but my language skills suck. I've made up a Spanish machine translation in my sandbox. Please can someone take a quick look at the first line of the lede for WP:BLP stub Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol and check that the statement "Sergio Gutiérrez-Ferrol professionally known as Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol" makes sense. I would assume that when playing professionally in Spain, France, Portugal Sergio Gutiérrez-Ferrol was allowed to keep his acento ortográfico, no matter whatever ITF rules say. Thanks. Since this is an English wikipedia make sure you also check in all the English news sources, the ITF and ATP, to see what name he plays tennis under. Also check the name he chose to register with at the ITF. His name in the lead was just now changed to Sergio Gutiérrez-Ferrol (previously at Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol) which was left intact and not quickly reverted, but not to have the name listed in which he is registered to play tennis and used in almost all English sources is going a bit too far here. He can chose to spell his name anyway he wants as far as I know as long as he uses the English alphabet. Novak Djokovic chose to add a J to his name for use in all things tennis. That is what he is known as around the world professionally. He could choose not to play professional tennis, but in doing so he needed an anglicized name. In Hollywood a studio pretty much owned Archie Leach. The studio who owned his rights probably told him he could choose any name as long as it was Cary Grant. Professional tennis gives players more leeway in case they want to add a letter to make it sound more to their liking. My preference is to open the lead with the most well known version of his name using pro tennis authorities ITF, ATP and Davis Cup plus English sources like the press and tv and magazines. Switching to the Foreign spelling first is not my choice but as long as both name versions are in the lead sentence I wasn't going to complain too much. Hello Fyunck, thank for confirming that European tennis players do not have a choice in dropping accents under ITF systems. In which case what ITF does is irrelevant for WP purposes. Novak Djokovic (Новак Ђоковић) is a Serb, not a Croat or Slovene, so his name, at home, would usually be in Cyrillic. Sergio Gutiérrez-Ferrol is not Serbian and does not use a Cyrillic name. Nor is Sergio Gutiérrez-Ferrol an actor working under a WP:STAGENAME like Cary Grant. I think everyone appreciates the work you do on tennis articles, however, as per link I have given several times WP:Manual_of_Style/Biographies#First_mention gives the following examples and format:

First mention

While the article title should generally be the name by which the subject is most commonly known, the subject's full name should be given in the lead paragraph, if known. Many cultures have a tradition of not using the full name of a person in everyday reference, but the article should start with the complete version. For example:

• (from Fidel Castro): Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (born August 13, 1926) ...
• (from François Mitterrand): François Maurice Adrien Marie Mitterrand (October 26, 1916 – January 8, 1996) ...

He has a choice of what name to use as long as it is Anglicized. But it doesn't matter even if he was told what name he was going to use. If you are told to use Fred Fredlich by the ITF, and then the ATP also decided to use Fred Fredlich, and then the NY Times and ABC and Davis Cup... till everyone knew you as Fred Fredlich, then that's what you would be listed on here at wikipedia. We would also list you natural born name if it was Ace Ventura, but you would be listed here as Fred. So it doesn't matter how it happens all that matters is can we find sources for it. Hello I found in the Colonial history of the United States that the first European settlement in USA current land was founded by Lucas Vázquez de Ayllón and was named San Miguel de Gualdape. However, the Spanish Wikipedia entry for Lucas Vázquez de Ayllón [1] clearly indicates that the name is San Miguel de Guadalupe. An internet search shows other names like "San Miguel de Guadalpe" and "San Miguel de Guandape".

The "Gualdape" version is only found in English entries but is not found in any Spanish text, not even a word or location similar to "Gualdape". There are many Spanish words that start with "Guadal..." and even famous locations as Guadalupe, Guadalajara.

Given that this is the First European Settlement in the USA soil and the importance in Spain, South Carolina and USA history as such, the name should be correctly spelled, whichever the spelling is.

I am sure that the Spanish documents of the colony will provide the correct information on this name as Lucas Vázquez de Ayllón was a high ranked official of the Spanish Crown, appointed by the king itself.

I'm looking for a third party to review a content dispute. Ordinarily, I'd go to WP:3O, but the topic is particularly related to this WikiProject, so I hoped to find a more knowledgeable person here to help.

The dispute is over content presently located at User:Itzcoatzin. This user originally created a page that presently resides at Zambrano (surname), presenting a history of this surname and its notable holders. I and other editors edited the original author's work rather heavily, producing the version that exists today. Itzcoatzin wished to continue developing his version of the article, and has produced his present version on his user page. He then asked for feedback on his version, which I provided. Itzcoatzin is not satisfied with my evaluation of his work.

I understand that risk. MOS pages can be for people who don't contribute to articles but like to order around those who do. Nevertheless, Catalan and Valencian for Catalonia and Valencia, and 100% Spanish accents for all Iberian & Lat-Am articles are already defacto part of en.wp. I suggest those who want to argue with how en.wp should be go and each create their "MY.WP". But if there are editors who are prepared to start from the consensus that already exists in existing articles and provide detail on the above, for example... En.wiki doesn't have a lot of coverage of Canarian nationalist issues, so I translated Alternativa Popular Canaria. Could anyone find more info on him? All I can find is that around 1792 he was a Spanish envoy/ambassador to France; in 1795 he was one of the last diplomats to leave Poland (Warsaw), where he was an ambassador, and later he was a Spanish diplomat in Vienna or Berlin. Her full name is not there, it only says "M. A. Fernandez, Spanish actress (18th century)". Does any one know? A few months ago, there was a discussion on Wikipedia talk:Did you know about Gibraltar-related DYKs on the Main Page. I am proposing that the temporary restrictions on such DYKs, which were imposed in September 2012, should be lifted and have set out a case for doing so at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Gibraltar-related DYKs. These restrictions also affect articles about Spain covering southern Andalusia from San Roque to Tarifa, including Algeciras and the surrounding region. I came across the article 1975 Spanish Grand Prix, which was rated by this WP as B-class in 2007. However, a quick look at the short list of references shows it is a clear start-class article. Most of the script was information related to this beach which would be relevant if the reader had an interest in making a visit to the beach. On which basis it is decided that crucial geographic articles about the main mountain systems in Spain such as Montes de Toledo are "low importance"? Just looking at your one example, I can see that RedWolf (talk · contribs) assessed the article after your creation of the talk page. He is a member of WP:MOUNTAINS but not WP:SPAIN so he has no standing to assess for Spain. Feel free to re-assess for Spain yourself. I certainly won't object. For some reason the article on the town of Mahon on the island of Menorca/Minorca has been called "Port Mahon".

I'm not sure where the "port" thing has come from. I have never seen or heard of the town ever being called this. A google search provides nothing to support this name and the official website calls it simply Mahon. Even in Spanish/Catalan it is just Mahón or Maó- never Puerto Mahón or Port de Maó.

I have started a discussion at Talk:Port_Mahon#Requested_move_2 to get the name corrected, if people would like to comment.

That's a fair question to ask, and helps concentrate the issue for Spain. In this case somewhat ironic too given that you've removed

*Menorca : Minorca English uses the Italian spelling, also Menorca

while the Talk:Minorca → Menorca RM is ongoing.

Hi! I'm looking for some help with translating sources for the article on Luis Coloma. I'm having some luck with English language sources, but most of the better sources are in Spanish. I can read Spanish up to a degree and can use Google Translate to get some of the words that I can't figure out on my own, but the problem is that I can't really get the nuances and finer details with my bare bones Spanish knowledge. I've done relatively well so far, but I would really love it if someone can pull a little more from the sources currently on the article. There is an entry on the Spanish language WP, which should help a little with finding information. I'd like to add some, but I don't speak Spanish. I can't find a university profile, and without knowing the language it's hard to separate news reports about him from those he has written as a journalist. As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

Probably should have notified WP Spain of this RfC earlier, but WP Music was notified. There is a RfC on Talk:Pablo Casals which is self explanatory which concerns 305 articles mentioning Pablo/Pau Casals; 275 have "Pablo", 30 have "Pau" which mainly relate to Catalan culture topics including Catalan people, Gold Medal of the Generalitat of Catalonia, El cant dels ocells, Josep Maria Corredor i Pomés, Lluïsa Vidal, Francesc Pujols, Costa Brava, El Vendrell, Palau de la Música Catalana, List of Catalans, Music of Catalonia etc.

There are a lot of municipalities in Asturias which its capital is a parish with the same name (e.g., Villaviciosa and the parish, Cangas de Onís and the parish...). My request is about merging this kind of articles, like in the Spanish wikipedia, where the parish with the name of the municipality is explained in the main article. I hope I explained this well.
