Unintelligible sentence

After completing his studies in Berlin as tutor in the family of an advocate named Berthold, whose daughter he subsequently married, on receiving his first ecclesiastical appointment at Mittelwald (a small town in the neighbourhood of Berlin) in 1651.

The above makes little sense. First, the syntax has gone wrong. Secondly, it is far from clear how he could complete his (theological?) studies as tutor in the family of an advocate.

The original sentence in 1911 Britannica is: After completing his studies for the church he is known to have lived for some years at Berlin as tutor in the family of an advocate named Berthold, whose daughter he subsequently married, on receiving his first ecclesiastical appointment at Mittelwald (a small town in the neighbourhood of Berlin) in 1651. It seems to be the victim of some trimming, and in the current article the offending sentence seems to have completely disappeared, supplanted by information from an unknown source. I will look into restoring. Bob Burkhardt (talk) 20:30, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gerhardt in Lutheran Calendar of saints

While I am grateful for the significance contributions of our American sisters and brothers for the Lutheranism topic on wikipedia, I would like to point out that for many Lutherans outside North America, this kind of calendar of saints is totally unknown. References to US/North American traditions and customs should be represented in an appropriate context e.g. "...in the United States Paul Gerhardt is commemorated in the Lutheran calendar of saints..." Could someone fluent in English adjust the article? Thanks! --Isidorus Finn (talk) 15:06, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
