Every year the Indian film industry produces in excess of 2000 films between the nine different regional film industries: Hindustani cinema, Bengali cinema, Tamil cinema, Malayalam cinema, Kannada cinema, Marathi cinema, Assamese cinema, Oriya cinema and Telugu cinema. Each industry should have two lists, the first with a more detailed summary of the highest grossing and most critically acclaimed films, and the second with a more generalized film chronology of the particular industry in question:
