I don't think ICE should be deleted - that just seems to come with the advert template. It just seemed like it needed a more balanced article, with the good and the bad, and more sourcing of information rather than relying on the ICE site. --[[User:Nealmcb|NealMcB]] ([[User talk:Nealmcb|talk]]) 01:41, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Swedish ranks

Hej, I noticed that at Major (Sweden) the US rank equivalent in the infobox includes NCOs, which I found a bit strange. Is there a reason for Swedish Majors being compared to US Sergeant Majors? De728631 (talk) 15:06, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: Segeant Major
I really appreciate your point as it does indeed look weird! The Swedish military rankings system is absurd and leads to a great deal of confusion internationally. The absurdity is even recognized by the Swedish military and serious attempts to fix this is underway. My articles explain about the situation and I will do more efforts in explaining it further and add more information as the new system is being implemented.
Sergeant Major at Battalion, Brigade and Division level are responsible for the moral/administration/family matters/training of enlisted personnel and is the most senior officer in enlisted matters reporting to the respective commander. Holder of the rank of Kapten and Major have been seen as taking care of conscript personnel matters such as training/morale/administration at Swedish training centers and Head Quarters. The reason for this is the total abolishment of the NCO corps making all senior Non-Commissioned officers Kapten, Major and Overstelojtnant respectively. Fanrik and Lojtnant are basically junior NCOs. Thanks again :) --Malin Randstrom (talk) 03:27, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Finnish military ranks

Why are you creating articles about Finnish military ranks by their Swedish name, when the Finnish name is primarily in use in the Finnish Military? JIP | Talk 04:45, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: Thank you for your point. I agree, in Finland, Finnish named ranks are used. Those articles should, therfore, be named by their Finnish rank with links from the Swedish named rank to those. I was born in Rovaniemi Finland and my mothers’ tongue is Finnish, yet it is easier to understand the Swedish version of the ranks for others. Do you have any ideas how to achieve a balance?
The reason I combine Swedish and Finnish ranks are for historical reaso:ns as Swedish and Finnish military units and ranks have been near identical for hundreds of years as well as my desire to balance the view of the Swedish armed forces using the Finnish armed forces as a benchmark. Finland is chosen as a benchmark for a number of other reasons as well: The Finnish armed forces are based on solid battle experience; Finnish military units are trained on terrain that is similar to that of Sweden; and in the event of conflict Sweden is expected to meet the same class of enemy units as Finland.
Aside from the topic, my view is that Swedish military forces should learn from Finland as Finland has been very successful in their military operations ever since the 16th century up to WW2. I am an great admirer of Finland and its armed forces and regard them as one of the worlds best.
Please feel free to improve those articles as there are lots more to be done.
Best Regards, --Malin Randstrom (talk) 06:49, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done: I have now changed as far as I could, according to your points, the ranks into Finnish. Pure Finnish ranks such as Alikersantti are all in Finnish with Swedish translations such as Undersergeant inside round brackets. However, ranks that are common to Sweden and Finland, such as Feltväbel, remain in Swedish with Finnish translations inside round brackets. The reason for this is that Vääpeli, in contrast to Alikersantti, is originally from the now obsolete Swedish rank Feltväbel and that Feltväbel was in use even in the Finnish speaking inland regiment Savolax until the end of Swedish governance over Finland.

User:Malin

Hi there. The piped link in your signature confused me a bit so I was checking similarly named users when I came across Malin (talk · contribs). Since you don't list Vinstagårdsskolan on your user page as one of the articles you have created, am I correct in assuming that Malin (talk · contribs) is not you? —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 03:08, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi elipongo,
I am Malin and I changed my name from "User:Malin Tokyo" to User:Malin" by using the link feature long time
before the other Malin created her name "User:Malin"
I was expecting wiki to reserve aliases as well.

Hello again. I prefer to keep conversations in one place so they make sense, so I moved your reply back to here. By the way, you don't need to put colons in front of every line as long as you don't hit the carriage return key. In any case, that other username was registered by another user and since they have made edits using it (back on 14 August 2005) you can't usurp it due to Wikipedia's legal responsibility to provide proper attribution to its contributors. Also, if I was that other user I would be a bit annoyed if someone came and redirected my userpage to point to someone else's. I know you didn't mean to make this error, but you need to request that the redirect page be deleted. You can do this by simply putting {{db-author}} on the page- an administrator will delete the page for you. Thanks for your contributions to the encyclopedia and happy editing! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 05:27, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the advices....fair enough, I will remove the link page to resolve the issue. Regards, --Malin Randstrom (talk) 05:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Malin. Sorry for the tardy reply - have been a bit busy with work. To answer your question on measuring systemic risk, I admit I have not been keeping up with the academic literature on the topic (point me to any link you know). Not exactly systemic risk, but on the topic of bubble measurement I am entertaining a hypothesis that if we could measure (1) sector/company-wise leverage in the share market, (2) operational leverage for respective sector/company it is possible to see buildup of "irrational exuberance". Beyond that, systemic risk could be a function of global dependencies. Nshuks7 (talk) 05:22, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
