You've probably come here from a recently created page whose text may soon be deleted.

If you created the page, Welcome to Wikipedia. Please understand that we mean no harm in deleting your page. In fact, we're delighted to have you, but the page you created seemed to be something other than an encyclopedia article. If it was a test, congratulations - you succeeded in creating a page. Please use the Wikipedia:sandbox for further testing, or create yourself a user page.

If we misunderstood, just go back and restore your content - it'll still be in the page history - perhaps accompanied by a bit more explanation so nobody else will mistake it for a test page. Every few days, an administrator will wander past and delete pages that link here or are listed on here (assuming there's no controversy - we work on the principle of consensus here).

For more information, please read our deletion policy

Using this page

At the top of the page that you feel is a test, add {{msg:Dtest}} to the top of the page. Please do not wipe out the contents as it helps to check the contents to be deleted without having to look at the page history. This expands to:

Template:Dtest

(See MediaWiki:Dtest to edit)

This is preferable to a redirect, which is potentially confusing for a new user.If you don't want to use this page, consider listing the newly created page on wikipedia:votes for deletion (if you are not an administrator) or just deleting it straight away (if you are an administrator).

You can also add it to the list at the bottom of this page, but you don't have to.

Other candidates for speedy deletion

As discussed in our deletion policy, this page can also be used by non-admins to list other candidates for speedy deletion, for an admin to review and delete. This clashes somewhat with the name and text on this page, which is one of the peculiarities of a deletion system like Wikipedia's which is designed on the fly.

We're still thinking about the best way to deal with this (see the talk page for some). In the meantime, our apologies for any confusion caused.
