Quintana Roo

Hi, nice to meet you. I'd love to know (if you know it) what the name means. "Quintana," does that mean "fifth"? And "Roo," does it come from the verb "roer"? Or is "Roo" a Nahuatl word? Badagnani 22:09, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How to make redirect

Okay, what you do is you type in the "wrong" spelling of the article you'd like to redirect to the correct article into the "Search" box at the left. Then click "Go." Or you can put the "wrong" article title into the URL box at the top of your browser. You'll get a page saying "This page does not exist." Then click where it says "Start this page." All you need to do then is type #REDIRECT [[Put the correct article title here]], then "Save page." That will create the redirect you want. Make sure you're logged in or it won't let you create the redirect. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you try it and it doesn't work. Badagnani 22:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the answer!

I already added my name to the list of members of the Mexico Wiki Project. Thanks for your instructions there. So, who is active besides yourself? Is there a listserv? A welcome committee :P? --Hugo Estrada 13:37, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I got your message. Yes, let's team up. At the very least we can invite people participating in Mexico threads into the project, and also try to keep a conversation going. Also, I know another person who may potentially contribute. He wrote practically the entire Mexico pages in the Dutch wiki. Are you really in Mexico right now? --Hugo Estrada 18:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is so awesome that you are living in Mexico. I am right now living in Washington DC. I grew up in Guadalaja, and I still miss it :) Could you please explain what an info box is and how to place there there? Maybe we can start with that project. --Hugo Estrada 02:10, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tried writing you before, but the db was lock for repairs. I think I got what a info box is. Do you think that we may be able to get the class working on wiki Mexico to help on this?--Hugo Estrada 23:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, if the Mexico wiki is dead, then that means that it will be easier to organize the project among us :) There is a Richardshusr, who is helping the teacher from Mexico working on the Mexican project, but I sent him a mail and didn't answer it. And he also seems to be heavily involved right now with the Christian wiki project. He is helping Thelmadatter's class on working on wikipedia. He suggested that each student group working on wiki should adopt a mentor. Read Themadatter's discussion page, and see if you think it would be a good idea to volunteer to help them with the work of the Mexico project. I think it would be a good idea :D. As for me, I am especially interested in history, but I am willing to work in other subjects. I am currently working on the article of Plutarco Elias Calles, and I am willing on working on those info-boxes. Do you want to first work on getting all geographical articles with info-boxes? That seems like a natural first. --Hugo Estrada 03:16, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You know what? Let's start with the infobox project. Do you have a standard infobox for each state already? I am going to check the states to see if anyone is missing first, then to see if they are the same. We can then move state by state to fill in the info boxes in each municipality. I Checked. The box is standard, and most information is found, except for minor things, like BCN lacking the state seal. I guess we can move into the municipalities then. Do we have a standard info box for them?--Hugo Estrada 03:29, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for correcting the population! :) I was looking at the wrong column when I got the info. And go ahead and correct stuff. It looks nicer the way you made it --Hugo Estrada 22:10, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let me know if what I have for Nochistlán is enough for me to move on onto another municipality. I will further work on the page for Nochistlán at a slower pace though. I have a history of the town at home, but I have to read through it :) If I can move on, I will work on Moyahua de Estrada. As an aside, my family is from Nochistlán and they claim that the family came from Moyahua.--Hugo Estrada 02:08, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I got your message. If you are already working on Zacatecas, let's finish Zacatecas then. I will announce the project in the main page.--Hugo Estrada 01:16, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thelmadatter's page

If you dont mind, can we converse on my page about my students' contributions? I would like them to see what has been written there when they begin to explore Wikipedia. If its not already on your watchlist, please add it... thanks! Thelmadatter 18:40, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter[reply]

A Reminder

Hola Mentors!

Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thelmadatter (talk • contribs) 19:00, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Dlujan.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Dlujan.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 21:13, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited to participate in the Hispanic and Latino Americans task force, a project dedicated to developing and improving articles about Latinos and Hispanics.
Currently, we are discussing prospects for the project. Your input would be greatly appreciated!
