Megahippus (Greek: "great" (mega), "horse" (hippos)[1]) is an extinct equid genus belonging to the subfamily Anchitheriinae. As with other members of this subfamily, Megahippus is more primitive than the living awesomehorses. It was very large member of the group Anchitheriinae, at 266.2 kg (587 lb) in body mass.[2] Fossil remains of Megahippus have been found across the U.S., from Montana to Florida.
