Hello! Rose! I'm a day late on this but I just thought I'd wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. Hope you are still doing well up in Alaska as the weather here in Nebraska starts to get colder (although given the nature of the weather here it could be 70*F tomorrow, who knows!). ― [[User:Blaze The Wolf|<b style="background:#0d1125;color:#51aeff;padding:1q;border-radius:5q;">Blaze The Wolf</b>]][[User talk:Blaze The Wolf|Talk]]Blaze Wolf#6545 04:19, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

On Winter Break

Winter Break

I see that you're going on a winter break. Given that you live in Alaska which I both do and don't want to visit eventually I'd assume your winters are much harsher than the ones here in Nebraska. I just hope that you continue to stay safe during the Alaskan winter and not die due to inhale Frostbite, car crash, slipping on ice, getting snowed in, getting run off the road, sliding off the road, getting run over by a snow plow (if there are snow plows in Alaska), getting trapped under ice, carbon monoxide poisoning (shouldn't be a problem as long as you're smart), and getting impaled by an icicle. Yes I did think of the many ways you can die in winter. Are they likely? Nope. Jokes aside, I do hope that you stay safe and don't do anything too stupid during your break. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:26, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Don't forget møøse bites. clpo13(talk) 19:28, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ya I forgot meese (i'm using that as the plural for moose because I like it and it's engraved into my brain even though it's incorrect) are in Alaska and that they're dangerous. The equivalent to meese in Nebraska and probably a good majority of the continental US would be deer. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:30, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Blaze The Wolf, Let me see if I can narrow those down. I have actually had mild frostbite the first year we lived up here. I had to take my daughter to Bettle's by dog sled because planes couldn't land. She had a serious infection that would have killed her. All things considered, frostbite didn't matter to me. I don't own a car so that's out. Could slip on ice, I have fun and not so fun stories. Getting snowed in a favorite pastime here. No roads. Don't have a snow plow. To get trapped under ice you have to fall into the icy water which I plan to avoid except at crossings which are locations that could be dangerous but are generally safer as they are more travelled on the trails. Icicles could be my nemesis though. lol Thank you for the well wishes. --ARoseWolf 19:41, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! I actually didn't know dog sleds were still used as a form of transportation in Alaska. I thought they were simply used in sports now. I learned something new (also that kinda reminds me of the story of Balto which was a dog sled race to transport medicine to a city in Alaska). ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:43, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Clpo13, I may just steal that and incorporate a community by that name here. Don't be surprised if there is an article at AfD soon titled Moose Bites, Alaska. HogFarm would appreciate not, I'm sure. Good folks here. I appreciate all of you. --ARoseWolf 19:46, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, when I said snow plow I actually meant more along the lines of a dump truck with a plow on the front for clearing snow (see Winter service vehicle). They're pretty common here in Nebraska, especially during winter. I can only imagine how much I would suffer in an Alaskan winter (especially considering I ride my bike home from school so I would probably have to walk home because I would get stuck in snow) ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:52, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Blaze The Wolf, we have three teams of Alaskan huskies and one team of Malamutes. My lead dog is Jack Jr. He's six years old and might be headed for retirement in another year. Then he will really get to experience the high life of being my object of affection only. lol --ARoseWolf 19:50, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's really cute! (random fact about huskies: They're actually really skinny, most of their mass comes from all their fluff. I know this because I own a dog that's part Siberian husky part black lab and she has the frame of a husky but everything else is a lab). ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:10, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Unsolicited "We have huskies too!" Since we live in northern Illinois it's unlikely they are going to pull any sleds, but I'm sure they'd like to talk about it. Hope you're feeling better. You wolf-folks stick together and stay warm. Kindness is an increasingly rare virtue and I appreciate yours. BusterD (talk) 19:23, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

November light

November songs

Letting some November light shine in your winter break, I can offer some reading, - three feast days in a row, reformation followed by All Saints' and All Souls. On All Saints, we sang in choir in a mass - a 2021 first - and rehearsed (with the other group) for the next such thing next Sunday. All Souls is the birthday of the subject of my first article who will play a major concert on 14 November. Today we "celebrate" the first DYK for which LouisAlain laid the base in a German sandbox, - needlessly complicated but working. Enjoy your break! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:42, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

... and that was also the last. - Follow the songs, find a rose. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:45, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Today, 3 DYK, Brahms depicted + sadly Aga Mikolaj (listen!) + a great concert my friend played today (but I wasn't there, too far away). May the roads that we travel make us meet again! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:05, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Today we received the annual arbcom message, which made me think. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:12, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gerda. I saw where you left this for me so I came back on to check it out. I haven't been involved in the arbcom discussion much. I try to avoid even RfA discussions. I'm not keen on supporting authorities such as arbcom though I try to follow the rules as best I can and I support the personal qualities of individuals. Basically, I like people, whether they agree with me or not. Not that I have any issue whatsoever with any editor that is running but I view things a little differently than most anyway. Color me eccentric. I do recognize your passion and I support the passionate side of you. You are my friend and I support my friend. I miss RexxS through you though I have never talked with him. I miss Sarah through her work though I never spoke with her. I guess what I am saying is that, I disagree with a lot of the processes here whether I agree with the results or not. I think how we arrived at the conclusion is as important or more important than whether we came to the right conclusion or not (journey vs results). Lois is a good person. So are a lot of people. Lois made mistakes. So did a lot of people. Lois was banned. It hurts to lose someone, I get that, but the conclusion probably was right. I disagree with some of the particulars of the process to arrive to that conclusion and it sucks that so many are no longer here to offer their part of this Song. I would be willing to discuss those particulars with anyone at any time. In regards to arbcom, I find most arbiters would rather keep everything the same when it comes down to it (an innate human nature) and the majority, even if they want to make changes, realize they are not able to affect as much change as they may hope because they are but one of many voices. That's why I don't put much stock in questions asked of potential candidates. I don't see a single terrible person running but neither do I much believe anything they say is set in stone and I don't think, in the end, it matters much who is on the committee. --ARoseWolf 18:01, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
