Mirco Magnani
Mirco Magnani is an Italian artist, active since the mid-'80s. His career as a music composer, producer, and video artist has been distinguished by a constant exploration of innovative sounds, experimental aesthetics, and new forms of artistic expression. Over the years, Magnani has founded and collaborated on musical projects that span various shades of electronic and acoustic music, from new wave music to ambient music and experimental music, as well as neoclassical music, always striving to push the boundaries of traditional production.
After more than twenty years of experience in Italy, Magnani moved to Berlin, an international hub for electronic music and underground culture, where he continued to evolve his musical style, expanding his artistic horizons and performing at numerous festivals and clubs across the city. His vision led him to work with various artists and collaborators, supporting the underground music scene and contributing to the spread of experimental music in Italy and abroad.
Moreover, he has played a key role in the music industry as a producer and curator of projects related to electronic and experimental music. With a multidisciplinary approach, he has woven together different artistic languages, creating experiences that go beyond conventional music to include interactive installations, live performances, audiovisual and multimedia events. He has developed projects that embrace a broader artistic vision, focused on experimentation and the fusion of various languages and disciplines, such as sound, video, and literature.
His musical production has continued to evolve over time, embracing various solo projects and international artistic collaborations. Magnani has worked on numerous albums and musical concepts, constantly pushing his sound research further, exploring new ways of interaction between music and other art forms. One of the latest phases of Magnani's career has been characterized by the exploration of philosophical and cultural themes through music, as demonstrated by his albums Madame E., Cronovisione Italiana, and Zarathustra – Der Große Mittag.
History
Mirco Magnani was born on May 16, 1961 in Pistoia, is an italian musician, composer, author, producer and video artist, Magnani has been a founding member of pioneering bands such as Minox, Technophonic Chamber Orchestra and 4D Killer.
Since 1984 he has produced music and mixed-media events with the 80's new wave band Minox,[1][2] a new wave group from the '80s that had a significant impact on the Italian and international music scene and was part of the independent record label Industrie Discografiche Lacerba. Minox's line up involved Mirco Magnani, Daniele Biagini, Marco Monfardini, Enrico Faggioli and Raffaello Banci, then in 1986 Enrico and Raffaello died in a car accident and one year after Daniele left the band.[3]
His career was further enriched by the creation of an independent record label, Suite inc., founded in 1996, running it until 2006. Mirco has worked for his label releases, as well as performing on-stage with Steven Brown (producer of Minox's album Lazare, 1986)[4] and Blaine L. Reininger, Luc Van Lieshout of Tuxedomoon, Lydia Lunch,[5][6] Krisma, Mad Professor and been remixed by Murcof, Nobukazu Takemura, The Gentle People, Daedelus, Ken Karter.
He has produced the releases of some bands for his own label: a single, an EP and the first album of Dubital, the first album of MissQLee, which also featured photographer Jacopo Benassi, and the debut album of Enfantronique, which in turn of featured cult Italian band Krisma. In 1998 Mirco co-founded two side projects, the band Technophonic Chamber Orchestra and the band 4D Killer releasing some albums and many live shows until 2010.
Since 2003 he has started to create audiovisuals for live shows for his parallel projects and for some Italian artists, later he produced also video art, videoinstallations and video clips.
In 2006 Mirco founded his solo moniker T.C.O. producing Decompositio Sonata, an audiovisual for a project of reinterpretation of twentieth century classical music composers. In 2009 he moved to Berlin and since 2010 for some years Mirco has broadened his horizons also to the organization of events and playing live but also as a DJ in many Berlin parties and festivals. In 2012, together with painter Valentina Bardazzi he launched the Undogmatisch project, which led to the creation of an interactive artistic platform combining music, visual art with an exhibition space and audiovisual live performances and which later evolved into an independent record label/notlabel in 2016, with Valentina Bardazzi as creator of the label's artwork.[7]
Then another collaboration started for the concept album by Mirco Magnani with actor/opera singer Ernesto Tomasini, titled Madame E. released in 2017. Madame E. is a musical setting of Georges Bataille’s Madame Edwarda, a short novel that interlaces themes of eroticism, religiosity and death, and was written under the pseudonym Pierre Angelique in 1941, during the occupation of Paris. Composer Mirco Magnani wrote eleven pieces interpreted by the actor/singer Ernesto Tomasini based on Bataille’s French text. The result of their dynamic interpretation is a hypnotically spellbinding performance where Tomasini’s haunting falsetto and the Magnani's compositions convey the tormented emotions in Bataille’s work and becomes the instrument that articulates the writer’s famously obscure themes.
In 2018 he produced another concept album, Carlo Domenico Valyum's release titled Cronovisione Italiana,[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] the concept of Cronovisione Italiana is a space-time journey undertaken by the researcher, experimenter, imaginary inventor Carlo Domenico Valyum through the medium of television since its invention. Magnani is the composer, producer and curator of that research on sound and video reworking, with the help of Valentina Bardazzi, presenting a creation from the reanalysis of passages from cult broadcasts of the Italian television from the 60s to the 80s.

Recent important publications has been the collaborative improvisation sessions with the polish berliner friend Lukasz Trzcinski: two releases titled Lumiraum [22][23][24][25][26][27] and Lumiraum Appendix, Lumiraum is a neologism, the suffix [Aum]] included in the title, according to the Hindu tradition is the basis of their ethical and spiritual conception. Its meaning involves the passage and overcoming of four levels of knowledge that are expressed by the three letters A-U-M, plus the extension of the M as maintenance of the vibration. Recalling in their imaginary the spirituality of ancient cultures, symbologies and concepts that had analogue cosmogonic conceptions of origin of the universe. An imaginary that slips into a remote and anachronistic world.
Then in 2021 an album was released entitled Toretam Tor,[28][29][30][31] with a former collaborator of the Technophonic Chamber Orchestra, Andrea De Witt. It is a tribute, a sort of praise of obsolete technologies and knowledge, regenerated and reconverted for the development of a new next path towards the spirituality of always. Humanity that reappropriates its original knowledge and consciences, fallen for a long time into almost total oblivion. In reality Töretam, which in ancient times was the tomb of an important descendant of Genghis Khan, is the name of the place physically closest to the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Between 2021 and 2023, Magnani assembled a three-volume series compilation titled Magnum Opus Collectio Series: Nigredo,[32][33][34] Magnum Opus Collectio Series: Albedo [35][36][37][38] and Magnum Opus Collectio Series: Rubedo,[39][40][41][42] involving tracks by many international artists. Each volume is inspired by the different phases of the alchemical process, which works with the prima materia to create the philosopher‘s stone. Nigredo, Albedo and Rubedo also have been meant by Carl Gustav Jung as a model for the individuation process, an unrepeatable psychic process, which leads each individual to approach his ego with the self. Magnani contributed with some collaborative tracks for the three compilations with Andrea De Witt, Andreas Yakovlev and Stamatis Dounis, Luc Van Lieshout, and as member of Dinner Situation and of Orquestrina Utu.
In 2024 has released a new album Zarathustra – Der Große Mittag,[43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50] a project started with the intention of rediscovering the messages behind Also Sprach Zarathustra the Friedrich Nietzsche’s book that seems never to be truly understood. Even during his lifetime Zarathustra himself, as written in the Avesta, was always opposed by the mediocrity of the common thought of his contemporaries, fighting against ritualism, respecting animal life and nature especially in a period in which non-violence was not even idealistic. Four different languages to give a multicultural vision of the Nietzsche's text from four important old and new cultures, somehow connected to that book: the German, the English, the Iranian and the Russian one, interpreted by Steven Brown (Tuxedomoon), Sainkho Namtchylak, Nikolas Klau and Paganland.
