Summary
English: Police Sergeant Thomas James Powell of the Hamilton division of the Bermuda Police Force ca. 1890. Photographed by Nicholas Lusher. Powell had previously been a soldier in the 11th Hussars, taking part in the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War. Powell was invalided from the army after the war, following which he served in the Royal Navy as a bandsman on HMS Indus, then as a convict warder at the Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda. He served in the Bermuda Police Force from 1864 to 1865, then was employed as a steward at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club 'til rejoining the Bermuda Police Force in 1884, retiring in 1902. He died in 1911, aged 77, and was buried in Pembroke Parish.
