Summary

Description

I had a charming experience yesterday! I was off in Amish country, headed for M-43/M-66 the long way around, where there is always Amish Baked goods.

I was going down some of the rural roads and noticed there was a lot of horse traffic. I love to see the horses at work and was really enjoying the trip. I ended upbehind this buggy and was nervous about passing it, so, I turned in to the J&L Country store, an amish grocery.

There were quite a few buggies at the store, and another motorized vehicle. There were baked goods displayed outside, and I found some cinnamon rolls and a mini-blueberry pie. I paid for them, then turned to go into the grocery. I heard talking behind me, and finally realized it was directed at me.

"Don't you want your ice cream?"

I must have looked very dumb.

"You know, your free ice cream. And register for the drawing too, please."

I had stumbled upon customer appreciation day. Wow. So of course I took my cup of Mooville Ice Cream, with homemade caramel topping (I could have waited for the chocolate which was coming but I like caramel better anyway). I didn't want to eat it in the car, so I sat down at a picnic table. There I was, in my almost sleeveless red top, with the Amish.

Culture shock for me. They didn't seem very bothered.
