On December 27, 2008, Deputy Minister of Health of Armenia Tatul Hakobyan participated in a drunken brawl in “Cactus” restaurant in Yerevan, during which he beat up former Deputy Minister of Energy Mels Hakobyan. A criminal case was initiated on this fact under the article “hooliganism committed by a group of persons”[5]. In this regard, Tatul Hakobyan was severely reprimanded by Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan[6].
In 2010, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan sharply criticized the Ministry of Health for alleged corruption schemes. A week later, Tatul Hakobyan was dismissed at his own request with the start of the ministry investigations [7].
In 2012, Tatul Hakobyan ran for a seat in the Armenian Parliament. However, he provided a false certificate stating that he had allegedly lived in Armenia for the last 5 years. At the same time, he had been living in Denmark for the last time and worked for the World Health Organization. There were court proceedings on this issue and Tatul Hakobyan was forced to withdraw his candidacy[8].
Tatul Hakobyan ran for the position of European Regional Director of the World Health Organization in 2019. To support his political campaign, he was allocated AMD 15 million from the Armenian budget, which was misused because Tatul Hakobyan was not included in the preliminary lists of candidates and could not participate in the elections[9].
