Brighton Rocks International Film Festival (BRIFF) is an annual six-day film festival founded in 2017. It takes place in Brighton at the Dukes at Komedia Cinema and the Manchester Street Arts Club.[1]
Overview
The festival was founded by Dr James Rowlins with the aim of "connecting fearless, like-minded creatives and giving them a platform to promote and celebrate their work."[2]
Filmmakers can submit their work to 17 genre categories. BRIFF bestows 33 awards at each festival, including a number of special awards for young filmmakers.[3] The festival's most coveted award is the Brighton Spirit Award.[4]
In 2022, the festival expanded from being a 3-day event to a 6-day event.[5] The festival is broadcast on Latest TV after the event. It also holds special screenings throughout the year for films made on small budgets.[6]
Brighton Rocks International Film Festival receives support from its partners the British Film Institute and MetFilm School. In 2023 it became a qualifying festival for the British Independent Film Awards.
Notable Guests
Patrick Bergin presided over the festival’s inaugural awards ceremony. Ben Wheatley and William Nicolson attended the 2022 edition.[7] Tim Pope, Jo Brand, Jenny Runacre and Amit Shah have also been guests of honor.
