Djibouti–Yemen relations are bilateral relations between Djibouti and Yemen.
Historical relations
Djibouti and Yemen have long-standing ties due to their geographical proximity across the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.[1] Historical relations between the two fellow Arab League members are strong, and cooperation takes place on many levels.[2] The Bridge of the Horns, a project linking both territories, has also been tabled.[3]
Political relations
Despite Yemen’s ongoing civil war since 2014, Djibouti has maintained diplomatic ties with both the Yemeni government and international actors involved in the conflict.
Military relations
Djibouti has hosted international military bases that monitor regional security, including operations related to the Yemeni conflict. The country has also provided refuge to those fleeing violence in Yemen.
Economic relations
Djibouti serves as a key transit hub for Yemeni goods and migrants. Despite instability, trade and migration between the two nations persist, with thousands crossing the Red Sea annually.
Cultural relations
Migration crisis
On 7 March 2025, four boats carrying migrants from Africa capsized off Yemen and Djibouti, leaving two dead and 186 missing.
