Carmelo Bautista Lazatin II (Tagalog: [karˈmɛlo bɔwˈtista laˈzatɪn seˈɡundo]; born June 4, 1970) also known as Jon Lazatin, is a Filipino politician who is serving as the 16th and current representative for Pampanga's first district since 2016 and was re-elected in 2019 and 2022 unopposed, as a member of PDP-Laban.[1] In November 2023, he left PDP-Laban to join the Lakas–CMD party.
In February 2025, Lazatin was one of the 95 Lakas–CMD members who voted to impeach vice president Sara Duterte.
Family background
Jon is a member of the prominent Lazatin family in Angeles City, he was born on June 4, 1970, to Carmelo "Tarzan" Lazatin Sr., a former Mayor of Angeles City and Representative of the 1st District of Pampanga. His half-brother, Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin Jr., currently serves as the mayor of Angeles City.[2]
Political career
Congressman (2016–present)
Jon was first elected in 2016 as the representative for Pampanga's first district. He successfully secured re-election in both 2019 and 2022, running unopposed in these subsequent elections.[3]
In November 2023, Lazatin left PDP-Laban to join the Lakas–CMD party.[4] On February 5, 2025, Lazatin was among the 95 Lakas–CMD members who voted to impeach vice president Sara Duterte.[5][6]
2025 mayoral bid
As of 2025, Lazatin is concluding his third consecutive term as a congressman, reaching the term limit for this position. Following that he has announced his candidacy for the mayoralty of Angeles City under Lakas-CMD in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.[7] Concurrently, his half-brother, incumbent Angeles City Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin Jr., is running to potentially succeed him as representative of Pampanga's first district.
