The People's Liberation Ground Force Army Aviation Academy normally called the Army Aviation Academy (MOE: 91010) is the main officer and NCO training establishment of the Chinese PLA Army Aviation, and provides helicopter training to the PLAAF, PLAN and PAP.[1][2] It is a deputy-corps grade institution, based in Taihu town, Tongzhou district of Beijing.[3]

History

  • 1999，established as a deputy-corps unit attached to the PLA General Staff Department.[4][5][6]
  • March 2001,[7] the Central Military Commission officially approved the relocation of the Army Aviation Academy to Taihu Town, Tongzhou District, Beijing, close to the Zhangjiawan airfield.[7] On 28 June 2002, the groundbreaking ceremony of the new campus was held. The campus covers an area of 520 mu, or 34.6 hectares (85 acres), with a planned construction area of 13.5 hectares, divided into eight functional areas: an administrative office area, teaching experimental area, training area, sports area, cadre living area, logistics support area, and open area. In July 2005, the staff of the academy officially moved to the new campus.[8]
  • November 2003, the college was identified as an in-service vocational institution.[8]
  • In 2016, in the process of the 2015 military reform the academy affiliation was transferred from the General Staff to the PLA Ground Force.[9][10]

Organization

The academy has four campuses in three provincial jurisdictions (including its central campus in Beijing).[8] Center on teaching training. Teaching training basically includes two types of training: flight training (for air service) and ground training (for ground support), integrating the three major areas of command, flight, and aircraft maintenance.[1]

Since 2006, the academy has enrolled gaokao students (recent high school graduates). The basic program is a four-year course, including the "2+2" training model, in which new recruits spend the first two years in general education at the PLA National Defense Science and Technology University, and the last two years of specialized training at the Army Aviation Academy.[8]

In 2015, the Army Aviation Academy had the following departments:[8]

and had a total of 19 vocational specialties, including:[8]
