Albania and Argentina have officially established diplomatic relations since 4 October 1973. In 1985, the Brazilian government granted approval for the first non-resident ambassador of Albania to Brazil, based in Buenos Aires.[1] Albania used to have an embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina but since the embassy was closed in 2014, the diplomatic relations between Albania and Argentina are covered at the Albanian Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil.[2] Argentina currently doesn't have an embassy in Albania, and the diplomatic relations between Argentina and Albania are covered at the Argentine Embassy in Rome, Italy.

History

Albania and Argentina started diplomatic relations in the early 1950s during the communist period in Albania.[3] Former foreign delegates of the Party of Labour of Albania have met over time with Argentine delegates to discuss about expanding relationship and supporting each other in different sectors.[4] They have met various times during the period of communist Albania and made trade agreements between two countries.[5] During the end of communism in Albania, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania opened an Embassy in Buenos Aires, which served as the Embassy of Albania in Argentina to serve the Albanian community in Argentina. Over time, during their meetings, the foreign affairs delegates from both countries have strengthened political, economical and cultural relationships between two countries.[6]

High level visits

In 2015, after the closure of the Albanian Embassy in Buenos Aires, former Minister for Europe and European Integration of Albania, Ditmir Bushati visited Argentina and also met with the Albanian community in the country.[7]

Both countries export goods to each country. Albania exports goods and services to Argentina and Argentina exports goods and services to Albania.[8]
