2025 Wisconsin Question 1

2025 Wisconsin Question 1

April 1, 2025

Require Voter Photo ID Amendment

Wisconsin Question 1 will be a legislatively referred constitutional amendment that will appear on the ballot in the U.S. state of Wisconsin on April 1, 2025. If passed, the amendment would amend the Constitution of Wisconsin to include a requirement of photo identification to vote.

Background

In 2016, the Wisconsin Legislature passed a law that required photo ID to be displayed before voters would be allowed to vote at a polling location.[1] Legislation was passed in January to place the measure on the ballot. The legislation was supported by Republicans, and generally opposed by Democrats.[2][3] The amendment would not change the current law, but would result in the need for a new constitutional amendment were it ever to be changed.[4]
